Movies are not for intellectuals

Stuff like  Mandalorians having to reckon with being a culture based on violence or the faults of the Jedi leading to their downfall or the political questions of which is more important order or liberty?  or everyone who happens to work with evil group evil themselves evil? Or hell all sorts of questions about violence and people who commit it.

You came to the show with a superficial attitude and saw the superficial. I came to the show understanding the moral nuances being explored and saw them being played out.

The Mandolorians' moral code is a bit confusing, but Star Wars as a whole is crap.  They made it clear in the new movies that it is impossible for the "good" to triumph, because The Force needs balance.  If the Good gets too powerful, the frick'n Force itself cultivates The Dark Side to balance it.

The only way to avoid this cycle of destruction is either to eradicate any bloodlines that possess the force, or for every possessor of The Force to embrace both good and evil.  Huh?  This is just stupid.

Everyone's moral code is confusing because people are not morally consistent

Nope

That's not true the term balance refers to the light side winning and being dominant.

No, the cycle ends when the light side wins and becomes dominant. The problem is there are always a group of dicks like the Sith trying to unbalance things for their own selfish ends.

In George Lucases own words

Quote:Here's how the force works. The force is a valley. The galaxy is part of that valley. The dark side is the river that runs through it, and the light side is the river bank.

The valley would decay and die without the river. But when the river overruns the riverbank, it floods and destroys the valley. The riverbank needs must be strong so as to not permit the river from overflowing. It will never destory the river, no matter how strong. It'll only protect the valley.

So while the Jedi can be a stand in for the light and the riverbank, the Sith are not the river. Rather, they are trying to destroy the riverbank so that it may flood the river.

The Sith are not the dark side. The Sith are using the dark side to pervert the valley. Darkness, like the river, is not intrinsically bad. In fact, it's even necessary for the valley's health. But using the darkness to overflow the river and destroy the valley is evil.

That's why bringing balance to the force requires their destruction.

In the real world, though, nearly all movies are made by corporations and their only goal is to make a profit. This nearly always prevents them from being more than lowest-common-denominator cliche. The same story gets made again and again, with small variations, because it sells.

Unfortunately publishing is increasingly the same, so a lot of what gets sold as "literature" is nearly as bad. Great literature sells a lot of books over time, but for-profit publishers don't think in terms of centuries. They want immediate appeal.

Overall there have certainly been more great books than great movies. But that's just due to the medium being newer, and the fact that it came of age in a time thoroughly saturated by capitalism.

Here is a movie which I think is as worth your time as most books you might pick up at the bookstore.

https://www.sitasingstheblues.com/watch.html

It was made by an individual, for relatively little money. She didn't have to please the accountants or satisfy focus groups. Of course it's also been seen by a tiny fraction of the number of people who've watched the latest stupid action flick.
I refuse lectured on culture by a man who thinks Sauron  was one of the wizards and doesn't understand or appreciate the moral  nuances of Star Wars

The flashing neon sign that says “obligatory nuance quota fulfilled, sign on the dotted line” sort of detract from the nuance.

I watched some episodes of The Mandalorian.

It's about 90% about people (or robots) killing other people (or robots). There was a cute green thing in the center, which I guess is what constitutes "moral nuance."

It completely reinforced the constant message of American media, which is that the good guy is the one who makes the most effective use of violence.

You are halfway there, but oddly fall short.  It's about making effective use of violence in defense of cute things.  Or, to put cute things in other terms, something worth fighting for.  When the time comes to fight or let things you love die, "moral nuance" goes to shit.

I agree with the opinion that there are more good books than good movies
and what, a book is a man's best friend
my grandfather formed me as a master of law, and of course, the books I read at school and university.
as, for a German and a citizen of Ukraine, I became an atheist quite quickly
soon I will be 35 years old and I already have the right to become the president of Ukraine
in theory, I'm ready, but I'm not friends with billionaires

Someone should make a movie about you.
