There are after all so many atheists who were atheists for over a decade (such as myself) who ended up believing in God after we grew out of our childish misgivings against him.

You're not a clairvoyant, so don't presume to know what I believed in the past, what I believe now, or what I might believe in the future. That I regard pot as dope doesn't alter the fact that it can have deleterious effects upon the brains of those who overindulge in its use, as you obviously have. I don't believe any god is really real. If I did, that would make me a theist. I am not aware of any historical evidence for God, and I don't see how historical evidence could support the existence of an omnipotent being that created the universe.

He didn't 'create' the universe... God IS the Universe. And there is a lot of evidence to support the fact that the Universe exists.

There's a lot of evidence to support that my dog, named God exists. You might say it's confusing to name my dog, God, and that naming him God doesn't make him God...and if so, I agree.

I had a close relationship with God when I was young, there are other things that happened but yes, I wondered why God would permit all that if he was a loving God. These days I have a little more complex idea about the 'personality' of god.

I'm not vexed at God at all. I don't think God is real, but if God is real, I don't know which version of it is real. I don't know why I would be vexed at the God of deism, for instance. I think the Abrahamic God is a married bachelor, so no worries there. Maybe there's an omnipotent being that really likes black holes and we're an unintended side effect. The most I can say about that last one is there's no evidence that should lead me to believe it's real.
