Why should one person loose their freedom to dress as they choose because someone else is dressed like that to avoid backlash?

That is pretty much where I stand with this. I do not think the government should be able to tell people what to wear. However, people should have to remove face coverings when necessary. Shit, there are restaurants with dress codes, why not banks? As for being 'against' Burkas, I am not quite 'against' them. I am against the oppression that they symbolize. If a woman truly feels more comfortable wearing it, without any outside influence, then I feel about the Burka the same way I feel about a scarf . . . nothing. However, if the Burka is an excuse for her husband to beat the shit out of her (if she doesn't wear it), then I hate the Burka and would gladly help any oppressed Muslim woman burn the shit out of her Burka and get her husband arrested.

Well the problem is the image associated with the burqa. Take the buddhist symbol that was reversed and then used by the Nazis to make the swastika (sp?). That symbol has fallen into oblivion even though it has nothing to do with Nazis. It's all about what the image is. Burqas are a symbol of oppression and religious fanatism and that is why it is seen as nocive. Freedom to dress, like every freedom in practice, is limited.

Oh no. I am opposed to the ban AND the Burkhas. I dont want to make the decision for these people. I was merely wondering out loud in that situation.

Let them wear their stuff...

..2 conditions I ABSOLUTELY will NOT budge on...

They cant be masked when they get their drivers license photos or ID's

They cant be masked in security/safety situations.

So if they get pulled over for speeding, dont go claiming "persecution" when the cop asks for you to unveil yourself so he can verify your identity and photo ID. Unveil yourself or be put in jail in that situation.

Try going into a bank, police station or mall in Florida with your face covered. You won't get very far. Same goes for driving a car with a ski mask on.

Nope. Saying "no" to muslims is having balls.

Like spoiled children they throw tantrums when Mommy or Daddy says "no."

The people in that picture, I sure hope, are currently on 24 hour monitoring by the government. We should thank them for coming out in the open and identifying themselves.

Both of these statements are true?

Honestly... how does someone covering their face affect security? All it serves is as a heightened sense of anonymity whether 'committing' a crime or not. If you really want to protect a bank: armed guards are the way to go.

I am not against the Burka, not even a little bit. An abusive husband will be so whether one wears a burka or not.

Yes, with a few exceptions (ie: me, atheistphil).
