Who's idea was it to send kids around to stranger's houses at night to get lollies?
I just looked it up, it was the Irish.

We also had a tradition of killing a bird, then taking it round to peoples' houses and begging money to pay for the funeral. Odd how that one never caught on.

In the NFL, pummeling someone to the ground is fine, but tripping them is not allowed and incurs a penalty. Life is strange.

To be frank, I'd have to change my name.

Would that be the Wrenboys? They still go out on St. Stephens Day in some parts of Ireland, especially Kerry. Though they no longer kill the wee wren.
Right so. I grew up on a farm near Ballymena, and when I was a kid, we still did the whole dead bird thing, but it was dying out even then. Still remember the song, though.

In my city, Minneapolis, it is against the law for restaurants to serve hard liquor unless they are situated within 7 acres of a commercially zoned district. There's an amendment on the ballot next month to eliminate that restriction. I don't know how I feel about that. Apparently nobody of note has come out in opposition to the measure, yet I'm not sure it would be a good idea to expand the range and number of businesses serving hard liquor. I'll have to give the matter some thought.
