I've made three of them; the first two were great! I followed the instructions with precision, like a scientist. The breast I did this year was the worst turkey I've ever done! I just winged it with no attention to anything I thawed at room temperature, then used a full defrost cycle in the microwave, then cooked it for probably an hour longer than it needed. Even after all this the result was tasty, just stringy and dry.

It is the tryptophan.

On another note I found out about red-eye gravy and now think it will be a main staple of our thanksgivings. My wife added a bunch of spices to punch it up and the result was super tasty.

Next time, frost it well in advance and in the fridge - room temp tends to cause it to lose moisture. If you didn’t, try dotting the breast with butter and using a turkey bag.

The way to get the most out of a microwave oven is to remove the door, stand the thing on its back and use it for an indoor herb garden.

Thanks for the turkey tips! I think I'm going to get a deep fryer for next year. I've never done it but I've had fried turkey and that is the best way to cook one I think.

A friend of mine tried cooking his Thanksgiving turkey in the deep fryer in the kitchen of his bar.

The resulting fire destroyed the place - and he had been running for months with no insurance....

Ooopps...

Yeesh, yeah, I'll be following the instructions and cooking in my garage probably, maybe my porch. I've heard the horror stories, but the guy that I saw do it cooked up three in a row with no incident. You just got to think about how much peanut oil will be displaced by the bird. I think most fryers have a dumb dumb mark in them as a max fill line, but we'll see.

And remember - a.garden hose sprayed direct into a grease fire simply pushes the fire around.

You have to cascade the water off the overhead.....

Someone once told me I should try smoking a turkey, but I couldn’t keep the damned thing lit.

RE: Random Thoughts
I find it hilariously dumb when Republicans try and compare how Democrats acted in 2016 to how they are acting now.

Hillary Clinton conceded the election the next night in 2016. Trump has not.

Obama invited Trump to the White House and carried out the transition. Trump has not.

The Russia investigation was based on evidence regardless of the outcome and had nothing to do with overturning the election. Trump's fraud claims are 100% invented and created to do just that.

There is no comparison
