That's a far cry from American nutjobs.

A question in my own turn: do you think that it's a coincidence that the most gun-saturated culture in the world also has the most gun deaths not associated with civil war?

But you need to understand that having a diagnosed mental illness is not a good predictor of being a mass shooter. Here is a left-wing journal admitting that: https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/mo...ntally-ill

Not a good predictor of being a mass shooter, but (depending on the illness) it’s an excellent predictor of shooting someone.

Sorry for not responding for a while, I was working on my Bachelor thesis.
No, I don't think it's a coincidence. I think guns as a form of self defense are common sense to people and that if I were forced to live in a high-crime area (such as much of the US), I would also get a gun.

Most of America is not high-crime.

We have lived in this house for 17 years now. So far the most threatening thing that I have witnessed was my son's car getting egged.

Of course, it was the first night he had it and he was none too happy about it. But no one got shot.

Even though I am in Texas it's not the wild, wild west.

Did I imply that that was the only risk? No. But like most American gun nuts, you too are quite happy allowing the perfect be the enemy of the good. As a result of people like you, nothing will be done -- except more murders.

Thanks a lot, pal.

Crazy isn't supposed to have a gun in the us primarily because of the harm that crazy with a gun may (and is much more likely to) do to themselves, rather than to others. Suicide as a consequence of depression, for example, is the single largest contributor to us gun deaths. Not by a little, by a lot.

Absolute best thing you can do for a depressed loved one is hold their guns for them, at the least. You can either carry them out then.... or you can carry them out with the poor kids crying as mommy cleans daddy off the wall. Addressing this single issue of lax enforcement (and poor mental health services) has the potential to reduce gun death in the us by half. If "addressing the poor mental health services" situation involves getting cops out of that loop, the potential for reducing gun death is even greater.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

If someone thinks that day-to-day problems (being short-changed at the grocer’s, line-jumping, being cut off in traffic, etc) are best addressed with gunplay, that should be enough of a mental health issue to prevent them from owing a firearm.

One a month? Nah. We have them on days ending in Y. ALL days ending in Y. Some days, more than one.

@FlatAssembler, you have a very naive view of guns, their dangers, and their worth as a deterrent,

Yeah.

They produce much more interesting spatter patterns as well.
