Well, there's more than 1.5 billion Muslims in the world today and I think only 10 to 20 percent of them would hold such an opinion. Only those are the maniac ones.

Should we let them go?
They may hear voices, yeah. But I doubt that they're from God, really. Perhaps they should visit a psychiatric, and he will figure out better.
If we should let them go... depends where you mean: I'd chose for them either the madhouse or the prison (can't decide which of them is better).
Anyway, if I could change the law, I would chose execution: I would not ask the 'good' citizens to pay taxes, in order to spend on these madmen, to assure that they live a decent life, have all the food needed, all the warmth, etc. until the day they die (i.e. in prison or whatever).

God has a pretty shitty track record when it comes to killing people.
I don't understand... you mean that death punishment for child molestation would be a bad idea?
I'm certain that if the punishment was so harsh, then child molestation would happen very seldom (one is to think about a few years in prison and other is to think that you put your own life at risk). Moreover, you would deal with the molester once and for all: he will never molest any child again (which the prison cannot ensure).
It cracks me up that believers will disavow themselves from something like this claiming the woman "is obviously crazy". Well, what's the difference between what this woman did and the story of Abraham? Abraham was ready to plunge a knife into his son's chest. Was he also "obviously crazy"? Oh, wait! "God" supposedly told Abraham not to kill his child at the last minute because "God" was just testing Abraham's faith! (Of course, this makes no sense on so many levels. Wouldn't an omnipotent deity already know whether or not Abraham had faith? And what the hell kind of test is this anyway? ("Kill your child! I command you!".... "No! Stop! I was only kidding!")
In any case, how can believers know that "God" didn't really speak to this woman? Maybe this is all part of his plan! I've had conversations with believers who insist that "God" has communicated with them in some way. Well, maybe "God" communicated with this woman. What makes her crazy? Just because she tried to kill her kid? We all know that "God" has no problem killing people. It's amazing that believers will swallow all kinds of tripe such as when some person claims to have spoken with "God", and "God" directed them to kick drugs, stop drinking, etc, etc.... But when someone claims to have spoken with "God", and "God" has told them to do something awful... well, obviously they couldn't have really spoken with "God"! Why the hell not? What makes people believe "God" really spoke to Abraham, but he couldn't possibly have spoken with this woman?
As any good christian will attest, god doesn't really "speak" to people, and the people who claim that they've heard god's voice are "crazy". What actually happens is that the "holy spirit" gets into your heart and sort of guides you around. You cannot be crazy if you believe that.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
