Sometimes, some people hide their intolerance behind fake civility.

In am ideal world where things like racism, sexism, homophobia etc didn't exist, I agree.

At this point in time, words like gay or female are useful.

So, we continue to fuss over those labels and continue giving them more power..?

Personally, I think working to diminish, and eventually eliminate, those labels would be a better use of time, but you do you.

That sounds like a very boring world.

@Ahriman,

Sorry, did you spew some new inanity?

Inanity. Cute word. Rhymes with insanity.

True.
Sometimes people hide being a serial killer behind being a kind nurse.

Do you think this is a good reason for people to not be civil? Or are you suggesting that I'm inolerant and fake? Or something else?

I try to do both. Choosing what is the appropriate response at what time is difficult. Here I just wanted to open up a discussion on annissue inspired by an IG post. I thought if people felt it was a boring or unprofitable topic they'd just ignore it, and if they were interested they'd make meaningful contributions. I'm not good at predicting human behaviour.

I sometimes like to know what people say even though they are on ignore.  I am a curious person.  But it is much better to have people on ignore than engage in uncivil and unprofitable discourse with them.  I will likely read a few more of your responses.  The point is, though, it will be my choice, and I will ignore more than I read, and I will benefit from that.

If there is a stronger form of ignore which prevents me reading your posts and which prevents you from posting on my threads, I would take that option.  Does such an option exist?

My opinion, I don't care. Maybe you should care less about others opinions, it might make you happier/content.

I'm curious as to why asking such a question has raised the idea that I am overly-concerned about this topic.  And also curious as to why if someone thinks that it is worth telling me.  As it is, it strikes me as simply a rude comment, especially if the person making it doesn't care about the topic.  Perhaps I am misunderstanding what is happening here.

Can you explain what the motivation and reasoning was for making a personal comment about what you perceive to be an inappropriate level of concern, and what you think is the appropriate level of concern on this topic?

Exchanges like this support the idea that you're too sensitive. Brewer made a polite observation along with what I think is solid advice ... yet to you it's "rude".
