The Hiking Life
|
Broke the 10 mile mark this weekend as the weather was nice enough to allow a 5.5 miler on Sunday. Sunday's hike was challenging, too. New terrain for us, very hilly, lots of roots and rocks, but the payoff was the headwater of the Assabet River, which was swift moving after all the recent rains. My daughter declared streamside to be her "favorite place anywhere" and my dog went for a swim.
Saturday's hike was cut short by hunters. We could hear their dogs (they put bells on the dogs to flush birds) moving toward the direction we were headed so we turned back sooner than normal. Live and let live. RE: The Hiking Life

Poor weather last week kept us off the trails but we did salvage a brisk 6 miler on Monday. It was a chilly 1C/34F with bright sunshine and ice on the pond. Hunting season ended and the cold weather kept the less hardy away, lending to a tranquil walk. The dog enjoyed himself off leash, rummaging in the leaf litter for stinky spots to roll in. He met some of his dog buddies at the beach and splashed around some despite the cool air. He was thrilled to be out after a week of gloomy weather.
I do believe in learning and discovery as providing a sense of purpose.
