US Independence Day stupidity

Today at 2pm local, juvenile female lost multiple fingers and split hand in two with artillery shell, critical, ambulance to hospital.

Wasn't done last year as well, in Oz? We have unhealthful air in the South Coast Air Basin- a region along California that is bowl-like and holds in smog. The amount of fireworks detonated on the 4th is a major contributor. If it gets over 105° F the inversion layer breaks up due to convection and the smog clears up. But it's worse, short term because all the smog is now hotter, too.
