On a side note, I read that for the premiere they pumped in the scent of blueberry pie during the candle scene. Adds a nice creative layer to the suspense for the audience. Kudos to them for trying something different, at least
It’s actually neither new nor different. Using scent to highlight various aspects of a movie dates back to silent film era. It was used in live theatre as early as the 1860s.

Correct, but it's not as common anymore and this is the first I've heard of it being used for a modern, mainstream movie, but then again, I don't go out to many movies either, so perhaps it's become more common these days?
