Ivan Denisovich:
- Thanks for the corrections. I will try to check out my knowledge on history more in the future
Anyway, Regular TV does not really show how dramatic the events in Minnesota have become. Social media is full of very dramatic images:

I’m am rediscovering the US culture of civil disobedience in these images.
And I want to add that:
- If your ancestors were not brought to the US as slaves as it is the case for many Afro-Americans, you’re an immigrant (all US citizens are). So these people seem to understand very well what is happening in their country and they are resisting through mostly peaceful means.
Also, racial theories like the theory of the great replacement (that motivates some MAGA supporters) is also a lie. As humans we have some geographical adaptation to the climate and geography in which we live, but genetically speaking, we are more or less the same.
Finally: There is no “uncontrolled immigration” in the US or in any industrialized nation. Between 1950 and 1973 there were these waves of immigration to northern Europe mainly from south-European countries. These were due to the need of workforce in a rapidly growing industrial economy. These flows of population decreased in the 1970’s and were very low in the 1990’s.
And today: No one migrates to the US unless they have a student visa or a work permit or a touristic visa or something like that. And when and if your Visa expires, you need to leave. That’s how it works.
Let me put this more clearly: D. Trump is exploiting the differences within American society. The more these “conservatives” and “liberals” confront each other like this the more points he gets.
He is the one who put ICE in the streets of Minnesota. Does he really need to provoke Minnesotans like this? (In a country that has already had an episode of civil war?).
These coming 3 years are going to be tough
Thumpalumpacus:
- 0 years / 0 months. But news channels here have a good coverage of the events. Many of us are monitoring the events in Minensota very closely
BrianBoru:
- There is a pattern of how populist leaders behave in order to get more votes and stay in power longer. And I don’t like their ways of doing politics (I don’t like Xavier Milei or Jair Bolsonaro. I didn’t even like Nicholas Sarkozy who has been sentenced to jail last year).
Every job in this world most have a code of conduct. Politics is an area in which politicians must act like responsible adults not self-involved narcissists.
As I said: Those Minnesotans don’t seem to want these ICE agents in their state. Am I wrong with that?
