And what precisely are the teachings of jesus? I look at one of 'his' random parables, and while some people take 'the elder son needs to learn to accept the younger son' from that... all I get is that elder brothers can be jerks.

A fundamentalist would, by definition, adhere to the basis of X. That is to say... they would be the precise followers of X. If X happens to be Christ, then a fundamentalist would be a follower of precisely what Christ espouses.

People in general are intolerant, vindictive, and 'bigots'. It makes sense then, that some fundamentalists (which are people) would be intolerant, vindictive, and 'bigots'.
