I didn't look at your profile. I have heard of both brothers and sisters named Rayaan. Sad

This was my bad, I shouldn't have assumed anything.

Hehe, no problem at all. Wink

I began researching Islam as I didn't believe the local media hype on Muslims in Australia, and also the clear myths surrounding the religion and people.
I guess with that, a maturing and inquizative heart and mind, and eight months solid of research stemming from the above, turning into a search to find the flaw in Islam to avoid fully embracing it (I feared the reaction of my peers). Obviously, I came to a point where I had no excuse left to not submit to my Creator (I mean, no excuse left on any level - be it logic or faith, in Islam both walk hand in hand), and am very thankful for that.

At the time I said Shahada (or converted to Islam) I had never met a Muslim, nor did I know any Muslims other than online friends I had made in my search. I was also in my final year of highschool, to add some more insight to my story.

Or so is the short story I can give here.

New member here, and hoping to cause as little a fuss as I can.
Firstly, I do not wish to turn this introduction into a debate. That's not my style, I'd much rather keep things civil and formal here and then tear each other to shreads later on, okay?
Firstly, I'm an ex-Atheist who came to the deen of Islam in 2007. Smile
I've had a bit of a lurk in the Islam forum, and I can't wait to participate. I thought I'd join now, and post when I can. But for the next month or two I may be pretty silent due to wedding plans and moving house, after then though, may the fuss begin. Wink

Abu Taj al Deen.

Welcome to the forums, good to see a Muslim on here who seems measured and reasonable, unfortunately most of the Muslims we get on here do little more than preach. Luckily we've got a few like Rayaan who bring an interesting mix to the forums.

Welcome to the forums, feel free to lurk or interject as you feel comfortable with! Big Grin

Congratulations on the wedding plans.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

RE: Hello
@Zen Badger: Oh cool. I've never been to Perth, but have heard it's very nice. I'm in Melbourne.

@tackattack: Thank you for the welcome. My whole fear right now is that I may not have time to keep up with debates and this does seem quite a fast paced forum. I'll try my best.
Thank you for the well wishes, too.

@Maria: Thank you, Maria.
