I haven't read any xtian or jewish shit in Greek, either. If it cannot be translated into other languages than what the hell good is it?

From what I saw it reads like second rate poetry.

No, no. I'm still in the polite phase. When I start jabbing, you'll know it.

You yourself said you read a "few passages" and now you're taking jabs at something you admit to know nothing about. Then, you call Islam irrational - I really hope you can see why I find all of this so funny...
I also haven't read any Jewish or Christian BOOKS in Greek - And I fail to see how that's even relevant.

In Islam, it is clear. The Qur'an does not exist outside Arabic. Arabic is a much more concise language than that of English, and English translations often make no sense as things are changed as a result (linguistic differences). Truth is black and white, therefore must not be altered. It wouldn't make sense to translate it into other languages if it can't be done. It's about the preservation of authenticity.

Before we go on Minimalist, I don't think I've really disrespected you, so can you please be civil and not so emotional about this? It'd really help the dialogue. (Not that you are sincere in it anyway, from what I can see here.)

New member here, and hoping to cause as little a fuss as I can.
Firstly, I do not wish to turn this introduction into a debate. That's not my style, I'd much rather keep things civil and formal here and then tear each other to shreads later on, okay?
Firstly, I'm an ex-Atheist who came to the deen of Islam in 2007. Smile
I've had a bit of a lurk in the Islam forum, and I can't wait to participate. I thought I'd join now, and post when I can. But for the next month or two I may be pretty silent due to wedding plans and moving house, after then though, may the fuss begin. Wink

Abu Taj al Deen.

Welcome, but I'm confused. You didn't want to turn this into a debate, yet, it seems that it is coming to that. Are you here to try to convert others? If not, for entertainment purposes? Please explain.

Hello Prayforme.
I didn't want to turn this into a debate, so I didn't turn it into a debate. I'm simply answering posts directed at me.

I have no authority to convert others. I'm here because I find speaking with people of other beliefs helps me to research my own and encourages my learning of my own religion (it's also something I haven't done in years, and I feel my interfaith skills have dropped drastically) and I enjoy forums/intelligent discussion.

Well, you could choose to ignore those questions and be on your way. But you are here. For what purpose?

I added that to my last post.
This is something I have a history in doing. I've been on Islamic forums, Sikh forums, Atheist forums, Christian forums...Well, in the past. Not in a long time now. I feel my knowledge of my religion has dropped as it's never being challenged these days, and having it challenged is a great way to get out there with more motivation. Smile

Why I haven't ignored questions is because, I don't believe in doing that. If someone has a question I'll do my best to answer it and astaghfiruAllah (Allah swt forgive me) if I get anything wrong for I am not a Sheikh nor a Scholar - rather an everyday Muslim brother (who, to clarify, does not profess in being too knowledgable, but is trying.)

RE: Hello
I told you that I'm still in the 'polite phase'. Patience. Ask godschild what the next phase is.

Now, as to your particular holy book, no, from the little I read I can see that it is basically the same crap as every other religious text. A song and dance to con people into thinking that some men have a hot line to 'god.' I'm afraid to say that after exposure to religious thinking it is very easy to recognize bullshit when one sees it and I was born catholic...the very KINGS of bullshit.

Well, my friend, your first problem is to provide actual evidence that your god is any more real than any of the others invented by the fertile minds of men throughout history. Allah = zeus = yahweh = quetzlcoatl.....etc, etc. Claiming that you read it in your holy book isn't evidence....it's propaganda of the same type that jews and xtians use...and let's not forget mormons and all the rest!

Whether or not there is a god is almost an irrelevancy. "Religion" however does exist to the detriment of humanity since the dawn of human society.

So you are here to challenge yourself. Very good.

But I don't think you're going to find anything you haven't heard before, especially if you frequent forums as much as you say you do. In any case, good luck.

Look, unless you're going to back up even one of your 'arguments' with some kind of evidence, then it reads as bigger BS than anything you're claiming to read as BS for sure.

Challenging myself is how I came to Islam.
But I wouldn't say that's what I'm doing here.

I'm here for dialogue, and self motivation.
To learn more about myself and become stronger as a Muslim and a human, from exposure to people different than I.

I don't frequent forums like I used to. That's part of the problem, I've found.

You've got a real sense of diplomacy, you know that?
