I've been lurking on this site for a few months. I've recently posted elsewhere and it seemed that I should introduce myself here.
I was raised in a strict Southern Baptist home in the Bible Belt of Texas. But once I joined the Marine Corps (in 1987) and saw the world, my eyes cleared and I became an atheist. I was a closeted atheist for almost 20 years.
Recently (in the past two or three years), I've really taken notice at the horrible things that happen in the name of religion and decided that I can no longer be a quiet atheist. So now, I speak out.
I have my facebook fights (like everyone else) and spend most of my time in the Atheist forums at Reddit.com
I'm very active in my community, but one of the few "outted" atheists. I have run into some small issues when it comes to my beliefs, but I'm willing to fight for what is right.
