But culture is not. Wink

I am though, and I just love doing it Heart

Quote:I have to disagree with yiou, but only because I own a great deal of copyrighted work and have been plagiarized. It not only pisses me off, but it has proven to me that plagiarism really is theft.

The moment you have shared a secret, it is no longer yours. Each idea in a brain is new and unique, even if it originally came from elsewhere. The only way to maintain an intellectual 'property' is to never say it, never hint that it is there, never allow others to think it.

And my understanding of theft stems from my understanding of ownership. The government cannot steal from you... as it owns all of that which you believe you posses. Only those who were too slow or weak to get away 'clean' are thieves, as they are attempting to take a thing which is clearly not theirs (as they have failed to defend it themselves).

Plagiarism is only dishonest if you say that you came up with the idea on your own... and it is never theft,, as you cannot steal ideas (each one being new, if a clone). I don't like people trying to take credit for other's work, but that is not a measure of thievery: it is one of honesty.

Ha, well, one of those things.

Plagiarism is not only the theft of an idea. It is the theft of a person's wording. If you take an article of mine word for word without crediting me and getting my permission, it is theft. If you take the ideas in my article, it is research. Smile

Why word it differently when they worded it fine the first time? Seems like a waste of time to me. Wink

Again... my understanding of ownership prevents me from seeing it as theft to take an available resource. It helps that I also have next to no respect for the anti-criminal agents in the USA, knowing so many criminals from this area myself.
