Evidence for Jesus outside the Bible?

RE: Evidence for Jesus outside the Bible?

Anyway, I am currently debating online with a friend of mine about the existence of Jesus. He claims there is evidence outside the Bible but I can't seem to find any and he won't give me any. God damn typical.

I tried to look some up, but they just ended up quoting the Bible.

Anyone got evidence?

Actually,he's right, there IS a bit of evidence outside the bible, just no CREDIBLE evidence.

I'm not being difficult, simply applying the same standards historians apply to everything else, beginning with the of lack of ANY contemporary evidence

Christian apologists like to cite Tacitus,I guess because he's a famous ancient historian.Have a look at WHEN he wrote and WHAT he wrote

.Josephus is also often quoted, again not contemporary, and despite the fact that one of the most commonly quoted passages."TheTestimonium" being long seriously questioned as a forgery.

I'm unaware of ANY evidence provided by apologist which meets the standards of evidence demanded by modern historians.

TACITUS, writing circa 116CE:

Quote:Here is a full quote of the cite of our concern, from Annals 15.44. Jesus and the Christians are mentioned in an account of how the Emperor Nero went after Christians in order to draw attention away from himself after Rome's fire of 64 AD:

But not all the relief that could come from man, not all the bounties that the prince could bestow, nor all the atonements which could be presented to the gods, availed to relieve Nero from the infamy of being believed to have ordered the conflagration, the fire of Rome. Hence to suppress the rumor, he falsely charged with the guilt, and punished Christians, who were hated for their enormities. Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius: but the pernicious superstition, repressed for a time broke out again, not only through Judea, where the mischief originated, but through the city of Rome also, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their center and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind.

JOSEPHUS

Quote:Josephus writes of a Jewish sect led by James the Just, whom he calls the brother of Jesus. Josephus' history includes sections on John the Baptist, the High Priest Annas, Pontius Pilate, and Jesus called the Messiah.

A third passage, the famous Testimonium Flavianum found in the Antiquities of the Jews 18.63-64, in its current form summarizes the ministry and death of Jesus; but the authenticity of this passage remains contested by many scholars, and has been the topic of ongoing debate since the 17th century. The most widely held current scholarly opinion is that the Testimonium Flavianum is partially authentic; but that those words and phrases that correspond with standard Christian formulae are additions from a Christian copyist.[3][4]

Oh, the tired old refrain that there is more evidence for fucking jesus than for any other historical figure looks no better when some dickhead does it on youtube.

There is NO contemporary reference/evidence to the godboy. Even the gospels themselves were written long after the alleged fact.

Umm Min,am I mistaken ,or did Hannah REALLY just post a blind Youtube clip without comment ,as credible evidence?
This one keeps digging a bigger hole for herself.

I don't mean to be unkind, but I'm beginning to suspect our Hannah might just possibly be a bit of a dill* without a clue, yet a legend in her own mind.

Yes, Pad, but it gets worse. The web site associated with the video gives as their "mission statement:"

Quote:Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready
to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an
account for the hope that is in you with meekness and
respect. - I Peter 3:15

Apologetics (definition):
1. The branch of theology that is concerned with defending
or proving the truth of Christian doctrines.
2. Formal argumentation in defense of something, such as
a position or system.

The Divine Evidence is dedicated to providing evidence to
confirm the Christian faith, investigating skeptic claims,
and basically answering the question, "Why should I
believe?"

TDE offers dozens of articles to help the believer in their
walk as well as give skeptics some information to consider

So they are the same type of fundie fuckheads...we have a couple around here...spreading the same old shit and our Hannah falls for it hook, line and sinker!

You know, that's actually better than my first guess.

I see it that the only reason someone links seeing jesus in food to some kind of divine bollocks is due to the way through practicing a religion will rewire neurons making them reasonably retarded.

If Jesus never existed, what on earth was all the fuss about so soon after his death, who on earth came up with the idea of fabricating him (it certainly was not the state nor the religions of the time) and how did they spread this myth so well and so widely that people willingly died gruesome deaths over him? Fake heros tend to take a while to generate intense loyalty as they rely on time hiding all trace of their mythical existence. Real heros tend to generate intensity pretty soon after their martydom. Christianity boomed so rapidly so quickly due to the martydom of Jesus.

No grave, no death certificate, no family photo album, no listing on Friends Reunited, no engraved dog tag but it is possible to find evidence by using logic.

Hannah wants Jesus but not god. Such is the steadily shifting topography in the landscape of the unseen.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I sure know how to push your buttons don't I?

Are you so thick you cannot understand how someone can believe in the past existence of Jesus but not believe in his divinity?
