Quote:Three Waves of Evolutionary Innovation Shaped Diversity of Vertebrates, Genome Analysis Reveals

ScienceDaily (Aug. 21, 2011) — Over the past 530 million years, the vertebrate lineage branched out from a primitive jawless fish wriggling through Cambrian seas to encompass all the diverse forms of fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. Now researchers combing through the DNA sequences of vertebrate genomes have identified three distinct periods of evolutionary innovation that accompanied this remarkable diversification.

More to give the creationists a diarrhea hemorrhage.

And, technically speaking, we still are fish (among a great many other things).
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Why if i'm a christian would it be good on a t-shirt?
I know we evloved from fishes but our species moved on from being fish may moons ago. So I stick by he statement 'I am not a fish' while acknowledging that in my evolutionary past my distant relatives were fish.

In fact I am not a fish could be an anti christian t-shirt because of the use of the fish picture to symbolise the christian faith.Tongue

so there.

I don't think the idea is crystal clear to you. We did not move on FROM being fishes. We evolved into a DIFFERENT kind of fish. You are now and will always be what your ancestors have always been. These sorts of misunderstandings are exactly where creationists get their ammo.

Actually, evolutionary biologists favor phylogenetic classification system, which places you in the same group as each of your ancesters.

The net effect is you belong to that ancesteral group to which any common ancester that you and any particular modern group shared had belonged.

It so happens that the last common ancester you and all bony fish alive today shared was itself a primitive bony fish. So you, as with any fishes, are a fish.

The last common ancester you and all dinosaurs shared was not a primitive dinosaur, so you are not a dinosaur. The last common ancester you and all dinosaurs shared was likely a primitive amniote, so both you, and dinosaurs, are amniotes, even if, in the course of your evolution, you lost that characteristic trait of amniotes, which is to lay land adapted eggs.

You are a fish, just a type of fish sufficiently evolved to be capable of more fully and factually grasping than Christians could ever have any prayer of grasping, the implications of what is meant by "you are a fish".

Well, phylogenetically, you are dirt, or something very close to a particular wet, slimy kind of dirt.

Big Grin

But just because we are all dirt, that doesn't meant we have to look up to a particularly disgraceful example of our kind of dirt, like that example which thinks he is the son of god, never worked an honest day's labor, and get nailed to a plank pretty much like he deserved, and then became dirt with higher entropy.
