Do fish feel pain?

Do fish feel pain?
So, I started this discussion about whether or not fish feel pain on Philosophical Vegan forum, and I got banned there. As I honestly want to know whether or not fish feel pain, I will start a discussion about it here. So, as far as I can tell, the arguments against fish feeling pain are:

It would make me feel bad to think a fish feels pain so I won't.
Come to me fish, hook yourself and I'll benevolently release you
I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

I don't see how or why a fish (or any other creature) wouldn't feel pain, it's a basic response to avoid harmful things

Pain, as we understand it, isn't basic. It's a recent acquisition associated with the mammalian cortex. We can't help but intuit that other creatures feel pain when we see them respond, but at the same time we know that alot of them literally don't have the machinery. The vast majority of basic responses to harmful things in living creatures (even us) are hard wired or straight up chemical reactions. The compromise that researchers have landed on is that fish feel something like their own version of pain, distinct from what we mean when we discuss that in human terms. They possess some of the machinery, but not all, they display some of the associated behaviors, but not all...and "fish" is a pretty broad category, so there are differences between specimens.

I think that it's a good pain avoidance strategy to treat anything you think feels pain as though it does. That way, even if it doesn't...you wont.

They would if they existed. I went to a Croatian pinochle club and there was no one there.

Well, like I've said, fish don't have the anatomical machinery that seems to be necessary to feel pain. Sharks and sterlets don't even have nociceptors. And higher fish, while they do have nociceptors, they have little or no type-c neurofibers, which seem to be necessary for pain (Although some experts argue that, in higher fish, type-A-delta neurofibers play the same role as type-C neurofibers do in birds and mammals). As well, fish don't behave as if they felt pain. A fish with a hole in its fin continues swimming normally, for example.

Fish live in water. I looked at our birdbath and there were no fish in it. Therefore, fish don’t exist.

We are currently refilling our pool after having some repairs done. How long before I see fish in there? The occasional frog jumps in but so far no fish.
