The church is destroying christianity's hold? I think you may be pointing the finger at the wrong people. Reality is destroying christianity's hold.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

In 1966 the late US Senator, J. William Fulbright wrote a book called the "Arrogance of Power."
Quote:On the Arrogance of Power: "Power tends to confuse itself with virtue and a great nation is particularly susceptible to the idea that its power is a sign of God's favor, conferring upon it a special responsibility for other nations - to make them richer and happier and wiser, to remake them, that is, in its own shining image. Power confuses itself with virtue and tends also to take itself for omnipotence. Once imbued with the idea of a mission, a great nation easily assumes that it has the means as well as the duty to do God's work."
Fulbright was speaking of the US and the Vietnam War but such a description can so easily be transferred to an outfit which thinks it was founded by fucking 'god' himself.

I love it when you call me "Sugar."
So southern.
I do love southern talk. I didn't know you were from North Carolina, Summer! I'm from NC too!

I live just above Charlotte. I used to live in Manassas, VA, but it's so infested with Yanks you'd never know it was a Southern Civil War battlefield.
Living in Charlotte has gentled me.

I took my son on a Civil War road trip in 1991. Got to Manassas 3 days short of the 130th anniversary of First Bull Run. It was 99 degrees and 101% humidity ( or so it felt). By all accounts I've read similar to the conditions on the day of the battle. We were dressed in shorts and t-shirts and carrying a camera and we were dying. Looking at the terrain, soft rolling ridges and hills, and trying to imagine wearing a wool uniform, carrying a 50-lb pack and a 10 pound rifle/bayonet and fighting a battle it was no wonder that the Union army collapsed.
Manassas itself reminded me of every other suburb in the country.

You should have talked to the people. Then you would have understood why it had "ass" in it.
It was an awful, stifling place to grow up. Not suited for kids at all, unless you thrived in the yuppie, bookish crowd. The cops were asshats and everyone walked around with sticks up their bums because they lived so close to DC.

THERE is no such thing as "sin" in the religious sense
A sin in that sense is defined as an offense against a god
TO date - no god has been proven to exist in reality
AS far as the christian - one must remember that they claim to be a monothesm - and only have ONE creator - which created everything - which would include both good and evil. Since the god sees everything he created as "good" - then nothing could be offensive to that god. After all - as defined by their fairy tale book - the god is the worst mass murderer of infants and children of all time - and it considers that to be "good" too!

In the Bible (2 Kings 2), a group of young children mock Elijah for his bald head. Elijah curses them and God sends two, angry bears to rip them to pieces. Forty two children are killed by God because they made fun of Elijah's bald head.
Imagine what God would do if those kids were caught masturbating

Virginia you say? I have a lot of family in Lynchburg, which is Jerry Falwell's town. That place can get downright weird.
Yeah, actually I lived near Charlotte for a long time, the Queen City is really cool. Nice to know we have a southern lady among us.

Lynchburg IS weird, and I often gas up or fill my stomach there on my way up to Manassas or back down. The Sheetz at Liberty University is ripe pickin's for people watching. Every day is Halloween there. Also, if tattoos are the mark of the Beast, Lynchburg ironically is going to be the first place to go.
Southern VA isn't so bad, nor are the more mountainly parts. I've been corresponding with a member of the faculty of VA Tech to possibly transfer into their horticulture program there. To link it to this thread, considering my boy-toys (and a good deal of my friends) are all Hokies, it seems like a natural place to end up. Good hunting ground.
That area along 81 is absolutely gorgeous. And when I get old, I want to end up back in the Shenandoah Valley. Knowing my luck I'll be back in the hustle and bustle of Fairfax and Alexandria though.
