Death Penalty

You do realise that the people who come out and admit to the murder are either people who claim manslaughter (accidental killing) or people who want to have a smaller sentence. I don't think many people who come out and admit to murdering someone end up on death row; it is seen as a sign of good character and remorse.

Except if you happen to be the average serial killer. Many of them like to boast.

However,I take your point. Under the justice system the in the PRC,remorse is seen as crucial. In all bu the most heinous crimes, the accused can often escape the death penalty by confession and declaration of remorse. If,on the other hand an accused pleads not guilty, and is convicted of one of a long list of capital crimes,,he WILL be executed.

The PRC still manages to execute over a thousand people a year. Perhaps unsurprisingly, their conviction rate exceeds 90%. Amnesty International estimate that since 1990, the PRC has executed between 1200 and 2400 a people a year. The figure is vague because the PRC does not publish figures.

RE: Death Penalty
What is worse being executed or being in prison for the rest of your life? I would go with the later one.

I also don't think people get scared to not kill eachother by the death penalty. I mean USA have extreme amounts of murders every year and most states there have death penalty. In some countries were there isn't death penalty is the number much lower.

But, it doesn't matter what the punishment is, people would still kill others if they wanted too. Execution is also a way for many murderers and seriel killers to get away. I mean that's an easy way out.

Further reasons why the death penalty cannot ever properly be an option:

Yep ... better 20 guilty men go free than one innocent goes to jail (and if it's DP then there's no way back)!

Exactly Kyu. At least with prison you can be let out if you're innocent (although hopefully relatively early on!)

Bozo, I did answer your question, and it was that I am for the Death Penalty, but because of innocent people that have been convicted in the past, I would say there needs to be a better restriction on it.

Tiberius....
That is correct on "Some" convictions, not all...It depends on the crime in which they committed on whether the judge will be lean on him/her or not...

I respect your "Opinion", but just as Abortion needs to stay in place with better restrictions, so does the Death Penalty.....

I could go on and on all day long, but then ending up sounding like an immoral ass, so I will drop this for now, only because I've said my stance and reasons, and no amount of, "So called" innocent humans that are falsely accused will change my mind on the D.P. still needing to be in place, but with better restrictions.

I support the death penalty for tele-marketers, people who drive while using a cell phone, and Trey, who keeps siphoning the gas out of my truck.

From what I understand, the US (and our) legal system seems to work a lot better in theory than practice in that regard.

I forget, exactly how many death row convictions have been found to be unsafe due to DNA evidence?Thinking

The ACLU says 131 in the "modern death penalty era" have been exonerated from death row. http://www.aclu.org/capital/innocence/index.html

The problem with getting statistics on how many innocent people have actually been executed is that usually after the execution, there is no more investigation needed. The sheer amount of people who have been cleared after being on death row is argument enough in my opinion. These people often spend years of their lives on death row; those years have been stolen from them by a completely faulty judicial system.
