Hey Nap... There are a bunch of stories about religion as well. Just sayin'. God ain't got any more real.

I haven't said that airforce personnel, air pilots or astronauts are incapable of making mistakes, lying or being fruit cakes. Just because I've posted a link to ANOTHER astronaut, doesn't mean I think he's kosher. There will always be rotten apples in the barrel. There are too many testimonies from what are regarded as credible witnesses e.g airforce personnel, to dismiss all of them as being mistaken. Well, in my opinion, anyway. ![]()

And that would be great if there weren't a hundred other things that people used to see all the time that they now don't because culture has changed how we perceive illusions and anomalies.
You don't hear too much about people being stolen away by the Good Folk these days, do you? ![]() (October 12, 2011 at 8:17 am)Rhythm Wrote: And if the stories where all the same we'd have less reason to wonder. They are not, either in the broad strokes or the particulars. Since you brought up the blatant frauds btw, it's amusing to note that aliens have a sort of trendy shift in appearance over time. Depending on where they say they're from (also follows trends). I don't know about the guys claiming to have seen aliens, or in Edgar Mitchell's case, being told by other 'trustworthy' sources that there are aliens. I haven't really concentrated on that aspect of things. The testimonies I refer to on the other thread DO all share many similarities.

I was always taught in critical thinking that a person's credibility/profession/authority DID weigh in on an argument?

I don't really know about that. People are still claiming to see ghosts, and fairies, if that's the sort of thing you mean. I don't think 'space craft' is quite the same thing as a 'ghost'. This is true, I hate when people tar them with the same pseudo science brush. Space crafts and visitors from other planets are actually possible, however there is no evidence in the physical world that ghosts are. Well, Nap...I was sick, so I went to a doctor. She went to medical school, had degrees, and all this, and yet I ended up in a military hospital because what she called a cold and dismissed was actually pneumonia. People make mistakes, even though she was a qualified practitioner.
Which is why I cited my dad's girlfriend, who is in all other respects a highly critical thinker and someone who I look up to, but who had an experience that scared the crap out of her. You have to admit, the idea of aliens is really fucking cool. I don't blame people for wanting to find evidence of another intelligent species coming to Earth, anymore than I blame people wanting to find a squatchie. But just because a bunch of people say "I saw this" doesn't make it true. How come there aren't more reports from amateur astronomers and professional ones, who are constantly looking up at the sky from all over the globe? No, the vast majority of reports come from people "unqualified", and then you have a few "qualified" people who really believe in something but don't have the evidence to back themselves up. Dr. Jeff Meldrum (forgive the spelling if that's wrong) is a professor of anthropology and he sincerely believes in Bigfoot, which we have yet to find valid evidence for. Humans is humans, you know? ![]() (October 12, 2011 at 3:45 pm)Minimalist Wrote:Quote:The testimonies I refer to on the other thread DO all share many similarities. That is a possibility of course, but I think lots of 'events' happen that at the time aren't general knowledge to other personnel. You'd have to read/watch the testimonies to see whether you thought that could be a part of it.
