Bore da!

RE: Bore da!
When I tell it to my kids I make it so that at the end Red offers to take Wolf out for BBQ. Then they all go out to eat together.

Otherwise, it's an abhorrent story.

Welcome Chad

First - just a couple of posts ago you described yourself as a deist. What gives???

Myths - I take it you're being sloppy with language here/ stating your honest lack of understanding/ seriously at odds with your whole belief regarding Christ???

The use of the term 'literal' in religious circles has become to mean the opposite of it's actual definition. A 'literal' understanding of Genesis one, for example is that it says nothing about material creation, yet leteralists, without evidence would assert the opposite.

I agree with you on the science stance. But I think you then fall into materialism trying to shoe horn faith into science. I think that's contradictory.

Prayer I'd agree totally. Having said that though... physical expression is supposedly meaningful and has merit.

Hey Chad and welcome to AF! ^_^

I think you're gonna do fine here and perhaps join our small gang of likable theists that we have on board Big Grin

Ah, but you see, that's the problem. If the Bible is the ultimate word of god, who gets the authority to go and interpret it? If the Bible is true at all, then either all of it is, or then nothing.

Though, I prefer gentle believers, who take the good parts and live according to them, than those who take everything seriously and e.g. beat their kids to a pulp when they "sin". Hell, even I think that the golden rule is one of the best philosophies in the world to live by. Wink
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Sorry, but why does it have to be all true or none of it true? Why all or nothing? It was written by different authors over a vast amount of time and then compiled over generations too. This is exactly why there are contradictions and passages written for political reasons at differing times in history. That is why I constantly say that it should be taken as a rough guide, not the ultimate doctrine.

are you a welsh speaker?

I can speak it but not write it. I can also speak fluent Cornish.

That's a Universalist stance chads. I appreciate all 'spiritual' endeavours (for want of a better word) and most seem to apply to my own faith. I must also look critically at my own beliefs and ideas and constantly check them to be true. Saying that as a Christian you only pick parts of the bible to be true though is inconsistent. Sure you may not understand it all, but those are the foundations to your faith and you cannot on the one hand claim adherence when on the other you deny some of it.

I didn't state I adhere to the Bible at all. If I pick up any Lonely Planet Guide to... I will finds some errors and some parts based on the opinions of the author. It is still a useful guide though.
The Bible is a guide for life, not a rule book.

Well you (we) would be mistaken for seeing it as a rule book. Of course we don't want to be following what it doesn't say. So we are talking about correct understanding of the original meaning then?

Because if the Bible's the word of god, then it should be perfect, because many have described god as perfect, or do you say that he suddenly is capable of errors? Or did he troll the writes to write fluff, just to piss future generations off? Big Grin

Then you are a lot smarter than many of your fellow worshipers for realizing this. And this is why I think the Bible is a collection of stories, written by men, for men.

Having reached this conclusion, how can you still be Christian?! Big Grin

After I came to the same realization, I started to truly doubt my faith and well, the rest is history. Tongue

What what? How can you take out the end of Little Red? That's the meat. Your poor kids are suffering through the whole morality tale waiting for the axeman and you totally robbed them. How are they going to know how to deal with wolves now? Wink
