I'm 36 and I've been smoking since I was 19. I've cut it back to 1 1/2 packs per week in the last year and as much as I do still enjoy it, I think I'm ready to let it go.
With exception to my appreciation of good whiskey, it's the last remnant of the foolishness of my youth.
I don't know if I can do it. I'm going to miss my 20 little replaceable friends.
Any of you smoke/quit cigarettes? (No judgement of course.)
Wish me luck. Seriously. Wish me luck, I really like smoking .......... but I don't think it's worth sucking air out of an oxygen tank when I'm 50.
I won't wish you luck,as I don't believe in luck.
I DO send you my very best wishes and moral support, with the admintion to keep trying.
Becoming a non smoker is probably the best thing you will ever do for yourself. It will literally add years to your life, and save you a fortune.
I gave up a 70 a day addiction on 14 January 2003.Cold turkey, after having tried patches inhalers pills,hypnotism----it was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I did it.
HOW? This worked for me; I decided I WANTED to be a nonsmoker ,and made a committed decision to do just that.I used the AA approach; one-day-at-a-time. (not their simple minded philosophy)
Seek and accept any help you can find. The cravings WILL pass.

I smoked for almost 35 years. A couple of packs a day for 20 of that. I tried gum, patches, drugs and slowly weaning myself of the nasty little buggers. None of that worked. I finally quit cold turkey about 4 years ago. The key was I finally decided that’s what I wanted. If I can do it you can do it.
I highly advise avoiding bars where they allow smoking for a while though.

There are still bars where you can smoke inside?
hock:
(I live in a place where it's practically illegal to smoke anywhere unless you're standing in the middle of the street.)

Yea, around here you can still smoke in bars and restaurants if they don’t allow anyone under 21 in.

It's such a fucking disgusting habit, I just can't see how people get hooked on it. It killed my mother, my father still smokes the fucking things, and I have only kissed one girl who smoked-and it was hideous. Besides that, smokers smell bad, are unhealthy and a burden to the healthcare system, and they truly lose the depth of taste for the better things in life: Pussy and food.
I wish you success. A good person living longer, one less smoker, one little bit more fresh air.

Wow, Epi, that's low. Nothing but personal bias.
I've experienced the feeling of nicotine -- it feels, to me, like someone has picked me up and is dangling me from a great height. I don't like it personally, but I know I like my coffee and my weed. The drug itself is reason enough.
What you're really taking issue with is the act of incinerating a cigarette and railing against that.
Be sure to note there is a difference between using the drug, and one specific and hyper-common method of using such drugs.
Also, I'm quite certain the smokers I know appreciate sex and food. So what?

It's a shit habit that has zero upsides beyond the fix it gives. I owe it zero kindness. It killed my mother. Don't expect anything BUT bias.

Bullshit.
Your mother fucking killed herself. She valued her addiction to it than to you. Admit it.
I've lost family too due to addiction. Some to alcohol, some to cigarettes. Their addictions, foibles and decisions ultimately led to their deaths.
You, sir, are hardly unique in your loss.
But you are rather vulgar in your beliefs, choosing to blame a physical object over your own kin's stupidity.
Call it what it is.

I'm almost 34 & quit about 9 years ago after smoking from the time I was 14. Good luck.

While it did at the time, looking back 8 years on it doesn't seem that bad now. I don't miss it.
