Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

I notice no one complains about Islam, Hinduism or Buddhism, and no one complains much about cults, just Christianity.

Nearly everything you just said is incorrect. Nope, all of it is.

Atheism =/= anti-Christian.

Plenty of people complain about "other" religions, particularly your cult. Oh, I think that last just refuted your cult statement. Cake.

Quote:I also wonder why there are rules in this forum against saying you are going to hell for your beliefs, and yet it seems you post continually about the injustice of Hell, or the fact that God is responsible for evil.

You must only read the threads you want to read. Oh, and question the rules all you want. This isn't a democracy. You don't like them, go fuck yourself.

Quote:Again, what do you care? If there is no God, why do you get so hot under the collar about it? No pun intended.

I really don't care. People like you piss me off. God does nothing for me.

Quote:And if, to you, the evil in the world proves there is no God, how do you explain all the good? Thinking

Sex.

Quote:Just some questions; just trying to keep it real.

Start by reading non-fiction.

When you see xtians trying to push creationism as if it were a theory of any merit into public schools, just to preserve their myths. When christians try to stop women from deciding what they do with their bodies, when christians are all the rage against doctors that perform abortions (even shooting them, how christian of them). When christians try to call people "abominations" just because of who they are, when christians, intead of keeping to themselves try to use god or the wholly babble as an argument.

I find it interesting that you expect Christians to act with Christian morality while at the same time you are opposed to Christianity. You seem to think people should behave like Christ, but then hate Christianity. Does that dichotomy bother you?

(December 1, 2011 at 2:46 pm)5thHorseman Wrote: No one here really cares about your kinds wacko beliefs,

Wacko beliefs? Christianity is 2000 years old. Countries have been built on it, Kings kneel before it, the whole of Western Civilization is built upon it, the very world you enjoy living in. Sorry, but you sound like the wacko, not me.

(December 1, 2011 at 3:09 pm)Doubting Thomas Wrote: What everyone else here said about Christians (and other theists, but mainly Christians) not being able to keep their religion to themselves. Not to mention that a lot of politicians let their decisions be guided by their religious superstitions. I have no doubt that GW Bush went to war in Iraq because he thought he would be helping to bring about the war of Armageddon so Jesus would return.

I’m sorry: You think I’m superstitious and then say that. Great.

Quote:At the very least, he thought God was telling him to start a war there. Then you have all the Islamic terrorists, and the theocracy of Iran trying to build nuclear weapons. All of them with God telling them who to kill.

I’m an American, and I hope they fail to do so, but if I were Iran, I’d be building nuclear weapons as fast as I could, considering Afghanistan and Iraq. It would have nothing to do with Jihad. Maybe you should try to think more critically and realistically about your world—and stop being so superstitious.

Quote:But I have a different question. Why do Christians care that atheists don't believe? Why do Christians such as yourself (and G-C and Statler) come here to an atheist forum and concern yourselves with the fact that we don't follow any religions (specifically yours)? I've never really understood the hatred thrown at us by Christians just because we don't share a belief.

I, for one, don’t want to see the world turned into the old Soviet Union or 1950’s China. That’s why I’m opposed to it. And I don’t want to see individuals lead down a spiritually dead path. But I come in here for the stimulating conversation.

(December 1, 2011 at 3:14 pm)Mister Agenda Wrote: I find it mystifying that so many theists have trouble getting that 'if you don't believe in God you'll go to hell' translates as 'if you don't agree with me you deserve to be burned alive for eternity'. Whether God does or doesn't exist has nothing to do with the offense involved with someone telling you that you're going to hell.

It’s a warning, not a wish, and I didn’t invent Christianity. So, it’s not that you don’t agree with me; it’s that you don’t agree with Jesus Christ, and I happen to think the teachings of Jesus Christ are true.

Quote:The presence of ANY evil is incompatible with a God who is omnipotent and omnibenevolent.

That’s not true. What do either one of those have to do with the evil you perceive in the world? Because you do realize you’re leaving out one other attribute: omniscience.

Quote:A mix of bad and good is expected from an indifferent universe. It may not be a problem for your particular version of the Christian God, I hear there's a movement to tone down his omnipotence a bit while retaining the omnibenevolence: that's how I would go if it was me, a very powerful but not omnipotent God that's doing the best he can with a whole universe to run.

That wouldn’t be God, and we both know it. I have no doubt you’re right about the movement to tone down the omnipotence, but it doesn’t wash philosophically or logically given the definition of “God” with a capital “G.” And I must admit, I cringe whenever I hear Christians say that God did not invent evil, people did. Or that God is in a war with Satan and will eventually win. God created good and evil.

(December 1, 2011 at 5:10 pm)Ace Otana Wrote: You know, he asked why do we care and we've given some pretty decent answers. Now I want him to answer the same question but reversed. Why do you care? Are you bothered by people who lack religious belief? If so, why?

Atheism will eventually destroy any society in which it is allowed to reach a critical mass, if you will. I don’t know what percentage that would be, nor do I know how long it would take to, say, destroy English society. But it would. Once a society bases its laws on atheism, then only the powerful rule because they are powerful and that becomes dog-eat-dog. There is no stability, there is nothing but civil unrest.

So, there’s that.

But there’s also the fact that Jesus has commanded us to spread the Gospel—the Good News—that God has given us a way to not only be reasonably happy on earth, but eternally happy with him.

Why are you HERE?

Why can’t you spell the word “Christ”?
