Discovery backs down over Frozen Planet finale

Discovery backs down over Frozen Planet finale
I can’t remember if someone on this board mentioned that Discovery had decided not to air the seventh and final episode of the new documentary series Frozen Planet. They deemed climate change to controversial a subject for US audiences. Happily it seems that Discovery has had a change of heart and will air the episode in the US market. The decision came shortly after a change.org petition passed 75000 signatures.

How the fuck is climate change a controversial subject to US audiences? If any one country in the world needs to wake the fuck up to climate change it's the US.

The finale was pretty spiffing. A darn good series.

The republicolibertarianeo-conazis think it is bad for business....specifically the oil companies which demand a right to pump as much shit into the atmosphere in the interest of profit as they humanly can.

Corporations have told their spokes persons to make global warming controversial in their fan base.

Fox news
rush Limbaugh

etc...

Basically, if you are a right winger and say "I think we shoud take global warming serious" your fellow right wingers will call you liberal, and even bring into question your love for Ronald Reagan.

Lets see what the trustworthy conservapedia has to say about Global Warming...

Conservapedia Wrote:Global warming is the theory that the world is becoming dangerously warmer, and that government needs to assert more controls over energy production and use to try to stop it. Put another way, liberals concocted a theory of man-made global warming to justify demands for a more powerful government. As temperatures have cooled in many areas, liberals have switched their theory to one of climate change and even global cooling, which of course would occur naturally many times throughout Earth's geological history

According to the 07/08 global Gallop Poll 63% of Americans see global warming as a threat, but only 49% think human activity is to blame.

Big energy’s propaganda campaign has been very effective on this side of the pond.

...and...even though Conservapedia claims that Global Warming was "liberals concocted a theory of man-made global warming to justify demands for a more powerful government" They also have an article ON THE SAME PAGE that claims that Global Warming is actually beneficial, and healthy for nature and humanity.

Conservapedia Wrote:Some researchers point out that benefits of health global warming have been overlooked, or minimized. As far back as 1996, Thomas Gale Moore, Senior Fellow at Hoover Institution (Stanford University) contended that positive health and amenity effects would be a result of projected increases in temperature. [49]

Another source notes,

In areas that see extreme cold temperatures, deaths related to colder weather would drop significantly, leading to decreased health care costs. Warmer temperatures would also mean less energy use to heat homes and buildings, helping to conserve energy. With the changes brought about by global warming more land would become available for uses like farming and living. Forests and plants would grow stronger, healthier, and more abundant because of the warmer weather, and this would mean more oxygen being released into the atmosphere.

I know, I know...first they say it is baloney, then they say it is beneficial.

Welcome to the thought processes of right wing Americans.
