What is it about America? Does America's education system just suck?

There are like two Americans in this entire thread. Sorry, that made me laugh. I usually don't take the time to rant about how much other countries suck, but fuck it.

My former room-mate thought that the American Revolution was WWII, took place in 1945, and that the actual second world war happened in 1776.

Even working a minimum wage job all that would be is cutting some damn grass on off days. Still don't think it's a good excuse.
I believe you don't seem to understand what I'm saying. No matter how well the paying conditions might be, a country and a nation should provide for the education of the children of the country. Even a dollar of debt each month is not a good thing in my eyes.
Do not misunderstand me. These might sound like words of a communist, but these are actually ideals that should be associated with anyone who loves his country and nation, and wants it to grow. For a nation to grow, it needs educated people. Why does America feel the need to constantly attract scientists from around the world? Are they so incompetent as to raise their own?
I certainly think that it ought to have something to do with these educational fees, otherwise people would not feel the need to go and join the army for the army to pay the education fees, which puts people of ambition and perhaps great skill and intelligence into the fireline, and steals valuable time from them.

Man, if that is an ideal then everyone in the south should be given a car to drive because the distances between places are so far apart(bet it would lower unemployment there too). 90% of the jobs in the Military (I hate it when people think there is only the gay ass army) are no where near being the firing line. Half the time when you get vets these days telling you wild combat stories they are complete b/s there was VERY little of the hardcore shit going on and unless they were infantry OR one of those that were deployed early on they didn't see 'the shit' as they say in the movies.

In my country, we have free education, but we are also called upon to serve in army as conscripts. I am glad to do my service for my country, unpaid.
But in the US these people are called upon to serve in the army even though they have no legal obligations, or moral convictions to go to the army simply they can obtain pay to receive higher education.
It is a nation's number one priority to give it's youth every possible educational path free of charge, friend. Of course, I'm not really certain what kind of a nation the US consitutes with only the American dream, that is earning a lot of $$ and buying yourself and SUV, keeps glued together, to actually think about that.

People aren't called upon to join the MILITARY in the US. Most of the time they join right out of highschool because:
1. They dont want to go to college
2. They were very gullible and the recruiter got an easy sign up
3. They started making babies too damn soon
4. They think it'll be 'fun','cool','badass'..... you name it.
5. (My personal reason I joined the Marine Corps for one enlistment) They wanted to learn a skill they'd never get in the civilian world (Work on fighter jets) still wasn't worth it, but eh.

The point is. Very few do more than the reserves or national guard (which are both part time options, some national guardsmen are full time) for college. Those that joined active claiming to do it for schooling didn't do their research or let their ego overrule their logic in which path would provide the most benefit. I will admit in some cases they feel that full time active and not going to school till after is their best option. Should also mention once you're tricked into signing (which some are) you ARE legally obligated to complete the enlistment you signed up for, minus the obvious reasons you wouldn't be able to(medical and such).

As for the American dream you talked about: My reason for earning a lot of $$ as you put it is this. I do not own a home yet, I have a daughter and a soon to be wife. I am doing this job out in the middle of the desert in order to buy them a home outright without a mortgage floating over our heads. Screw the SUV I'll stick to my Mustang and she seems pretty happy with her Toyota Camry. I can only speak for our American dream when I say we just want to live with less stress and give our child (and future additions) the best life possible. Give them the best opportunity to be better than we are. I'd like to be able to pay for my children's college so they don't have to do the jobs and things I've done unless they want to. If I cannot afford to for whatever reason then I will show them evry option I know, make them research and find more if there are any and expect them to be able to handle themselves well throughout whatever struggle they face.

What country are you from btw?

Casey, I love how in the same post you call the army gay ass and then go on to extol the virtues of infantry. You do realize that the army is mainly infantry, right? At any rate, what sort of U.S. soldier are you that denigrates other branches of the same military? Are you a soldier at all? If so, I'm thinking Marines. That is the only branch that promotes dickheadery as if it were a good quality.

Edit: Haha, read on and saw that you are in the Marines. How predictable. A soldier is a soldier. Don't be an elitist prick. I pay your salary.

The infantry makes up less than 10% of US Army forces.

There are at least 20 other branches of the United States Army. Unless quite a few of them make up a very small percentage of the Army, we are left with infantry making up the greatest percentage. Furthermore, it is 15%, not less than 10.

The very first infantry unit in the United States was army. The very first fighting force we had was army. General George Washington was an army soldier. All of the stryker units you saw deployed in Iraq were army. Personally, I think every branch has its own merits, and I have nothing against Marines as a fighting force. I just think their attitude sucks. In my experience, Marines have a tendency to be brainwashed elitist knuckle draggers. I don't mean that as a blanket statement, as there are exceptions. However, I have never met an Army soldier as ball-grabbing and condescending as a Marine. It really isn't just my experience. They have different expectations as far as attitude.

Back then your choices were walk or ride a horse, Shel. And you only got to ride a horse if you had one.

Haha, infantry doesn't just walk nowadays. Even still, cavalry is infantry now. At any rate, I was making the distinction that the Army was the first military we had, not the Marines, which came just a few months later. That part had nothing to do with infantry. The overarching point being that neither branch has any reason to look down on another or on anybody, for that matter. They are all part of the same military. Being elitist about it undermines what integrity there is. You don't see green berets or SEALS hopping on forums and being blowhards about how fantastic they are and how the rest are useless twats and they actually are elite. The Marines is just another branch of rifle slingers, and I mean that with some respect for the process, if not the individuals in question. The attitude of some just does not fit reality and it chafes.
