Oh, they're pushing for it. But who wants to make America angry? We/they might just decide that there are terrorists in Holland and have an excuse to shove our/their politics down their throat.

I think they'd make half of America happy.

Half would be happy, the other half wouldn't even be able to find Holland on a map.

They are not going to press charges against the US government, just against the individual. I think that would seriously damage his credibility.
This Santorum guy seems rather dangerous, at least when I take my own agenda into consideration.

No, that'd be the same half.

I could see it damaging his credibility among moderates. I think Holland should press charges of some kind. But I also don't think his supporters would care, even if they learned that charges had been pressed. They might just see it as more "evidence" of a "liberal commie conspiracy."

He is dangerous. If half the Christians here knew what he wanted (total Christian Theocracy of the Old Testament), even they would be scared.

Well, that's not why I think he is dangerous. I think with the reckless words he uses around for other countries, I wonder how his foreign policies will turn out to be.
They never were in our favour, but they might just turn outright hostile with this guy.

Good point. We're already on rather poor terms with many other countries. The last thing we need is a leader who takes the "America First" attitude to such extremes that he's willing to make up blatant lies about other countries to fit his personal agenda. Holland, (no offense) is pretty benign. They're not going to declare war on us for something our president says, and I don't think we import much from them. But if Santorum gets elected and starts insulting China, or the OPEC nations, or Great Britain, or Israel. . . the trade repercussions could be devastating, as could the state of our alliances in the middle east. I'm especially worried about China, because it's conceivable that they're eventually going to be considerably more powerful than the U.S, and when they are, they might decide that they don't need to take crap from us anymore. War wouldn't happen from simple words, but a trade embargo or higher interest rates? That could happen, and it would be devastating.

Quote:"America First"
Well, I'm not opposed to that. Every country will inevitably think of it's own interests before looking after the interests of others, if at all.
Quote:he's willing to make up blatant lies about other countries to fit his personal agenda
Well, that's it. It's his own personal agenda, it's not said to actually further American interests. But the fact that he is willing to use another country to do so makes me think that he can do that for more than a single time, and for no real good reason at all.
Quote:They're not going to declare war on us for something our president says, and I don't think we import much from them.
He isn't your president yet, though. If he does become your president, I'm sure that things won't really change much. The most that can happen is for the Dutch government to sue him for slander.
Quote:But if Santorum gets elected and starts insulting China, or the OPEC nations, or Great Britain, or Israel. . .
Well, they certainly could, but I'm sure he won't really go that far...
But maybe he will. He didn't strike me as a particularly bright person.
Quote:because it's conceivable that they're eventually going to be considerably more powerful than the U.S
Heavens forbid. But I think that thinking of a China that has a power beyond the one that it has right now is not really realistic. They are dependent on other countries to fuel their economy. For that, they use their own people as cheap, wage slaves.
You cannot go too far with that.
Quote:. War wouldn't happen from simple words, but a trade embargo or higher interest rates?
That would spell doom for China aswell. For that to happen, foreign investors would have to withdraw their investment from china, which would mean a large number of unemployed Chinamen. This would be rather interesting, actually, in this weakened state, we would be able to snatch Eastern Turkestan from their hands!
