Have you ever been so offended?

RE: Have you ever been so offended?
nearly? I have done it.

Your aunt is the problem not god.

Based on your response about God fucking you, I suspect you had a large part in the break up. The word "irrational" is the first word that pops up. Then the words "did fall far from the tree" came up but I am not sure if your aunt is your mom/dad's sister.

if blaming "No-god" helps you, go for it. But when it becomes ranting it becomes self defeating.

But you have the chance to stop this cycle.
Good luck.

What are you talking about? When did I say something about god fucking me?
When did I ever say I blamed no-god?
I believed in god for a long time and for a short period before I realized there was no god I guess I did blame him a little.
Mostly, though, I blame my ex-husband. Who does a person blame for abuse besides the one that abused her?
I can blame myself a little for letting it happen, or not leaving sooner, but I do not blame god or no-god.
I had too much to drink last night Blush
So maybe I didn't word things right? I don't know.

Wow. What a cunt. I'd be devastated if I found out someone who should care about me thought so little of me.

No, I have never had that happen to me. I don't have any family members who are religiously insane (I have an aunt who is a JW, and even she wouldn't do something like that to anyone).

If I were you, I'd ignore "advice" from someone who claims to be an an atheist but can't even spell the word correctly.

I'd also ignore that aunt of yours. I don't need negative people in my life. If someone truly offends me, I cease having any contact with them at all. No good-bye. No explanatory e-mail. Just gone and good riddance. But, I realize this may not be easy to do when the offender is a relative.

That is good advice. Lately I've been thinking a lot about changing my phone number so I guess I should do that.

Maybe not in those words. In the sense that I blatantly defied my mother at least once, yes. Though I've never just cursed her out or anything.

There was an event where she demanded I not see one of my few friends again because his mother falsely accused me of something. It was justified that she thought I did it, because it was something I had a habit of doing, but my parents were apparently far more insulted than I was. Between friends moving away from town, one friend's brother not being an upstanding citizen, and this incident, it became hard to have friends that my parents approved of. I just had to put my foot down with that incident because it was directed at me, and I didn't hold a grudge after it was settled. Why should my parents?

Well, Losty.... you were definitely the better person in this scenario.
You should be proud. Clap

If it was me personally, I would write a well-worded, profanity free message pointing out all of her flaws, everything wrong with what she's saying and what a terrible person she is for saying it, and then, in the final sentence, tell her "kindly go fuck yourself now."

If it was me.

I wouldn't tolerate that kind of bullshit from even my closest relative, and once you cross that line, the gloves are off.

I feel like I've been through enough without some cold hearted "well meaning" person to tell me that everything I've been through, what my kids have been through is my fault. Someone else hurt me physically, sexually, and emotionally while I spent my time praying for answers, while I spent my time clinging to my abuser trying to learn to be better for him, why should other people get to tell me that's my fault? I played their game the best I could, and then I decided I loved my kids too much to allow any further abuse. So I quit. I no longer seek them out for advice. I just want to be left in peace.

Well thanks for listening to me complain. Maybe I will go to bed now haha.
The scariest, most worrying thing is that she clearly didn't see that her insistence that you 'try harder to be a good woman for god' was the same type of abuse that you were escaping from. That sort of empathy fail would probably never get forgiveness from me.

No. In her world view, she's doing you a favor. A lot of apologetics that target believers with doubts or ex-believers are extremely insensitive. It's born out of a necessity for them to explain apostasy in conjunction with their all-loving God who sends apostates to be tortured for infinity years... because he loves them so much.

It's really uncomfortable to think about that, and it's much more comfortable to blame the doubter/apostate. Not only does it absolve their god from all wrong doing, they also can pat themselves on the back for being such good believers themselves.

Sorry to hear that she did that to you. It's best that you deleted it.
