I believe you, Jack, and I don't think there's suspicion in anyone's mind that you are making this up. Also, I'm sorry that you were a victim of assault and imagine his words must have been very hard for you to hear and deal with. Let me make it clear that I don't blame you at all for having taken the action you did.
As for Stimbo, if his version of events is true, he regretted what he said and apologized. Because of this, I imagine his comment was made out of drunkenness and hurt, and that he wasn't at all serious about raping someone, and would never do that. Not that it's ok to ever say it, especially to say it to a victim of assault, and not that Jack's actions weren't justified. I just don't think those words stemmed from true feelings towards women and true intent.
I imagine his offering money for some physical affection comes from a place of deep loneliness, as humans need physical touch for mental health. And this is coming from a catholic girl, so obviously I think prostitution is wrong and am not condoning his behavior. Just saying I don't think he is a bad person.
I am aware his wife died 8 years ago, but I think this is the type of loss that never really gets any easier, and perhaps only harder as time goes by and you are left only with what could have been - a wife and kids in his case. A family that he will never have. So I wouldn't dismiss his pain as being something that happened years ago.
Shell and Jack, I can see your sides as well. You have both been open here about having been victims of abuse. Even though I don't know what that is like, I can understand better now why you both feel so strongly about Stimbo's words, and it makes sense.
I think I've said all I needed to say here about this. Time to move on.

I'm sorry, but it needs to be said:
Losing your soul mate has to be a crushing experience. A life altering event that would be near impossible to come back from. I feel extremely bad for Stimbo and what he went through.
None of this gives you a forever pass to act any kind of way or say any kind of thing. This community has, for years, been supportive through his bouts with severe depression. His massive drinking problem, the awful things he said about women in general and the people he did have in his life specifically.
We all became inured to his continuous threats of suicide. We called the police in his home town once when we were particularly worried that he would end his life. But afterwards, when it kept happening, we silently worried and hoped it would pass.
He wants others to hurt like he does, so he isn't the only one feeling that way, it seems. We still always welcomed him back like he didn't say the nasty things or didn't go on FB to make a misogynistic rant about women or didn't make an unacceptable proposition on social media only to comment on his own post to make it seem like the lack of any response was the world's fault.
He systematically pushed it so that every single person who cared for him reached their boundary point and then there was no one left to hurt with his suicide threats. So he stepped it up. He contacted a person who he knows has a history with assault and who he knew would be highly affected by what he was going to do. He threatened to become famous. He threatened to rape a woman. This was weeks after Parkland, for context.
Weeks later he blamed it on his 'needs'.
Listen, I hope Stimbo gets help. I hope he recovers. I hope he finds happiness. But he hasn't even apologized. He still thinks he's some sort of victim. He's manipulating you, CL.
I'm not going to be silent while it happens, any more.

The only way to support rape victims and to support rape prevention is to stop behaving like men are fragile beings that didn’t know better.
And dude. Not just after rape happens, it’s better when you spot it BEFORE it happens. Patting him on the back fuels the problem.

Steel, I appreciate the concern. Even though I talk like I always try to empathize with people, I've never let that line cross over to being taken advantage of or allowing people to treat me badly. I mainly try to be a good listener for Stimbo when he's feeling sad, but there's been no inkling that he is manipulating me, nor do I believe he has any ill intent towards me. "Don't confuse my kindness with weakness" and all that. Thank you for the concern though.

Stimbo brought this about himself. It isn't anyone's fault but his and those who can't see that, now that it's all out for anyone to read, are just ignorant.
You won't lose me as a friend and I do understand that this isn't the fault of staff or anyone else besides himself.
