What is meant by large flame wars?

I'm just curious, really.

You want an exact definition of number of people involved and number of flames per page, so you can walk right up to the line, but not quite put your toe across it? Forget it.  Whether a thread has devolved into a flame war is a discretionary decision made on a case by case basis.  Deal with it.

No, I'm just curious. I'm not looking for an exact answer to anything, more for a general explanation for what would constitute that kind of thing, and I got one from Evie. Now I'm asking whether multiple people can flame each other if they choose to do so themselves. But, on second thought, if they were allowed to do that, the caveat about flame wars wouldn't be there to begin with.

I thought we were allowed to ask questions here and that we'd get answers from staff. Was I wrong?

Why do you have to assume the worst, by the way? I specifically said in the OP that I'm just curious and later added that I'm not looking to flame anyone in particular or to engage in that kind of activity - not planning it, anyway. I just want to better understand that rule, is all.

Nah, that's fine. Don't mind at all.

Quote:I wasn't talking about flaming just one person though. What if multiple persons decided to flame each others, would the flame war rule apply?

Well if it turned into a serious war that became toxic for everyone and upset a lot of people then that would definitely apply.

And even if everyone were just joking, if multiple people are all flaming each other then it could very easily become serious.

Just two people or maybe 3 people is fine, as long as it's all under control and doesn't get super nasty.

Quote:I don't know why you're making this about you and me, by the way.
Because I'm egotistical and selfish. Lol. J/K

Because I can't speak for others but I can speak for myself. So the offer's there if you wanna do it between you and me.

Quote: I'm just interested in how it all works. I'm not looking to flame a bunch of people right now, exactly.

Ah, cool. Not everyone would appreciate it. I would though.

I'm very hyper right now, as you may be able to tell. Like, I am perfectly well but I have all this manic energy so... I just want you to know I'm in the perfect mood to be flamed by a penguin in R'lyeh if you're interested.

For the record, it's not true at all that Jenny "always has to assume the worst."

Jenny's really lovely.

I understand that you may be generalizing. It's not like you can't reclarify or amend the wording of what you said if you want to Smile

I mean, I wasn't planning on doing anything of the sort, but if you actually want to do that, go ahead. I won't mind if you flame me either. I'm not sure I feel like insulting you right now, though.

That's because I'm lovely. And right now I'm being particularly lovely and pleasant.

In fact I don't wanna insult you either if you don't wanna insult me. Maybe if I brag about how lovely I'm being right now enough you'll insult me, though.
