What should I do if I'm being forced to go to a Christian School?

See, I'm kinda worried about people knowing I'm an atheist, so if I debate with the teachers and students, they will know. Around where I live, atheists aren't percieved in the best manner.

-EDIT- Just realized you also mentioned debating with my mom until she gives up. I can do this, but not with the kids at the school. If they find out who knows how I will be treated

Yea, if my college sees that I got expelled, they probably wouldnt react very well. :/

Don't give them a valid reason to expel you. If you're going to get expelled then make it that they did it solely because you are a critical thinker. It's the ultimate form of rebellion.

It really depends, there are great Christian private schools and really bad ones. You'd probably fare best academically with a catholic one on average. Look at the ranking or such to determine whether it is acceptable, and if it sucks academically, try to convince your mom to send you to a good one that won't stifle your career. The mere fact that it is a Christian school doesn't have to deter you too much.

She's told me that "The best part of being a parent is being able to impose your will upon your kids." When I said I didnt want to go to the Christian School. She said she wanted to get me to look at the school and then she may force me to go after I look at it.

My brother (although he has demonstrated himself to be Dr. Bullshit Ph.D) has said that mom told him that im not being forced.

If I am being forced to go, what should I do?

In a nice even respectful tone, any time they start spewing theology, ask questions about the ecvidential and/or logical basis for it.

Best way to annoy a teacher is to take them deeper into their subject than they are used to going or maybe even know. If the teacher is good they'll actually like it and you'll learn more, if they're bad well all you're doing is trying to learn.

Don't you home school now? Shit, if it were me I'd do everything I could to get out of home school. I'd pick christian school in a heart beat. Real teachers (accredited, they have real teachers right? this is not a bunch of parents getting together and calling themselves a school, is it?), social interaction, extra curricular activities, out of the house and away from mom. Let me say that again, OUT OF THE HOUSE AND AWAY FROM MOM.

So, ya just don't play along with all of the indoctrination bullshit. Don't be anti enough to get kicked out, take an "I'm undecided" position as often as possible.

If home schooled and you get this chance, take it.

I figure she may force you to go, but she can't force you to get passing grades. Unless she starts beating you for getting Fs, I guess.

Listen, until you're 18, there's not much you can do. What you need to do is keep your head down, do the best you can with the bullshit, and do what I told you to do in another thread: begin saving money for a car while making plans to leave your house when you turn 18.

Just about everything you do between now and your 18th birthday should be about getting the resources and opportunities required to leave home. That's the only way you'll find peace.

I don't know your mother nor your relationship with her. I wouldn't burn bridges but if you could really debate her on it then perhaps give that a try, I'm not saying an all out fight because you are her child and you won't win. A debate might help. Give legit cons as to why you shouldn't go.

If that fails and you do go (which from what I've read in the other's comments other than the religious aspect of it you might be better off education wise in a private school but that isn't for me to judge since I know nothing of private schools) don't be rebellious. The last thing you want is to start something that gets you in trouble. In school and under 18 means you have no real 'rights' which means all freedom of speech and protesting you want to do will do nothing for you. If you think real debate wouldn't get you in trouble I say go for it. Most likely though it will and that will lead to more problems. It may not be fun and it may be a long few years but it is better than having all out war with everyone you know, not getting your diploma, and hurting your future. When you are old enough you can branch out, say what you want, and do whatever you want you just gotta get there first. Good luck sweetie. Smile

Tough one but I would say try to save up for your own car/place.
