And I'm pretty sure it wasn't a bridge Trump was promising but a wall.

RE: Building Bridges
Whatevs, I think what he meant by the first quote you posted is that we should try to find common ground to work together for a better world despite our differences. If we focus on our differences and refuse to even communicate, thats where the "house" falls apart. That's what I got from it anyway.

Also, I take this to be a general lesson for the every day life and the everyday people around us. Obviously I don't think the extreme example would apply, like trying to be friends with isis or something lol. But the vast majority of us don't come into contact with terrorists and rapists and murderers on a daily basis, and this message was meant for us average folks. Personally I feel I am very much able to apply this to my own everyday life since I've never been in any sort of extreme situation.

Right. So let's not be like trump lol.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

And herein lies the first problem. There are people who view a better world as a world without the others, whatever the others may mean. You can't build bridges with people who define themselves over exclusivness. You can only surrender to them, if you aren't among the undesirables, that is. In that case, they want to see you removed from their little bubble.

And this message was meant as an encouragement for those types of ppl as well. It takes both sides, after all. We can only do our own part and hope that it at least leaves some sort of impression, imho.

Which would mean, they're not entirely over the edge as of yet, and I would agree with you on that. But if they're gone, you can't argue with them anymore. With a select few exceptions, they're too far gone.

To build a bridge all you need is a hand and some Lego blocks:

Anyway, I love this message so much! I posted it to my facebook as well because I think it's such a great message for people of opposing views to come together and build a better world. I've seen that there are a lot of people here who live by this and that's why I'm able to feel comfortable being myself with you guys. Despite our disagreements, I'm still treated with a lot of respect on these forums, and I really appreciate that.  Smile

Thank you for posting this Catholic Lady: I enjoyed reading every word.  I actually went to school to learn how to be a bridge-builder (or peacemaker).  Much like how you feel here with the AF community, I felt like I could truly be myself when communicating my bridge-building thoughts to my professors and classmates in my assignments and projects: IMO, trying to find ways to help people manage their differences more constructively, was very fascinating and rewarding for me; it was truly great to find other people who were interested in this stuff.
With that said, thanks again for posting those marvelous words.  Live long and prosper.

P.S. Thank you for your best newcomer vote and for your very kind words.
