Creationism and Ignorance

RE: Creationism and Ignorance
Americans say what they're supposed to say on those polls. Doesn't mean they believe any of it.

LMAO you have been demonstrated that 2% of scientists think creationism is true so your response is cherry-pick out a book with testimonies from some of the 2%.... bahahahahahaha. It's so typical of a theist to cherry-pick so pathetically, lmfao. It's the same way you kid yourself into believing that you can make sense of scripture that makes no sense.

For every 50 scientists who deny evolution there are 2450 who accept evolution. You understand what 2% means, yes?

That's fine, Alpha, but I don't see 50 people signifying a major disagreement. Refer to the poll I cited, not the wording I used in the OP.

66% of people think scientists "generally agree." 98% of of AAAS scientists constitutes general agreement. Therefore only 66% of those polled have accurate knowledge concerning the scientific consensus on the matter. I said it in the OP: even if science is wrong on the matter (which it isn't) people at least ought to have legitimate information. I'm not really even blaming religious indoctrination here. Sure, that's probably part of the problem, but our education system has also failed to correct the widespread misunderstanding.

Sure, there are 2% of scientists that disagree, and 50 of these individuals can provide testimony in a book. So what?

The OP wasn't even about creationism or evolution per se. It was more about the fact that a third of the US is unaware of a scientific consensus on the matter.

I guess you might have a point about the general efficacy of polls, but as far as Pew Research Center goes, they are fairly well-reputed.

Like I said, for every 50 scientists who think evolution is false 2450 think evolution is true... so Alpha isn't contradicting anything you have provided, VL, he's just citing something completely irrelevant.

Not relevant to what I said. Conducting a poll of liars will result in a result based on lies no matter how rigorous the protocols are.

I don't see why people would lie about that.

Although your objection is why I object to world happiness surveys. But then, it's no surprise I am confused by the idea that anyone even really knows how happy they are, or what "happiness" is supposed to even mean.

As far as I'm concerned pleasure makes sense and is concrete, and pain makes sense and is concrete... but emotions seem purely psychological to me. But then, that's probably because I'm a little odd and have terrible interoception . . .

American Christians say what they're supposed to say, regardless of what they believe.

Project Steve is a pretty good demonstration of how ludicrous Alpha's book link is.

Thanks for the link, F&F. It really speaks to the point I was trying to make.

Quote:Creationists draw up these lists to try to convince the public that evolution is somehow being rejected by scientists, that it is a "theory in crisis." Not everyone realizes that this claim is unfounded. NCSE has been asked numerous times to compile a list of thousands of scientists affirming the validity of the theory of evolution. Although we easily could have done so, we have resisted. We did not wish to mislead the public into thinking that scientific issues are decided by who has the longer list of scientists!

Inadvertently, Alpha's post (combined with your link) has demonstrated to me that the problem mentioned in the OP is probably more the result of indoctrination/distrortion of the facts than a failure in our education system--although an increase in the quality of education would most likely combat the ill effects of the misinformation.

Accept when you examine their credentials most of them have no relevant credentials and almost none of them have any practical experience in those relevant fields. People have already tried this bullshit . Their is no serious decent amount among experts in relevant fields of the fact of evolution an earth and a rejection of a young earth .

having the credentials does not mean they act like scientists . When dealing in creationism . For instance I know of D. Russell Humphreys and yes he does legitimate work as long as it does not conflict with his religious beliefs . When it does scientific objectives goes right out the window and he becomes a religious apologist.
