well, hello

Hiya Mermaid, I remember you from over there. You might remember me -- Thumpalumpacus was my name there and will once more be my name here.
Welcome, Mermaid. Glad you're here!
I'm a former biologist, and my fiancee is still one. She's also a Christian, and has no problem reconciling evolution with being the means of Creation. She doesn't love me any less for being an atheist, and gets as angry at Christians who try to say bad things about me for my atheism, because she knows my moral character. May I ask in what field/specialty do you work?
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love. (September 20, 2015 at 1:09 pm)Mermaid Wrote: oh, sorry! No reason to be sorry Just thought I'd let you know; I'd hate to think new recruits believe we aren't on top of copypasta spammers!
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
Mermaid - When you want to post huge chunks of stuff like that, just use [ hide ] and [ /hide ] on each side of the huge block of text, with no spaces (I put spaces so it'll show up here for you), and it will let those who want to see the bulk of it select an on/off of the displayed spam.
Since your comment about Micro makes me suspect you're also a biologist, I'm happy to have another one here. I hope you choose to participate actively on this forum, whatever field you're in.

Welcome! I use to post over on AF.com as well, under the same moniker as here. I'm finding .org more welcoming.
"For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring." - Carl Sagan
Hello and welcome!
"A wise man ... proportions his belief to the evidence." — David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Section X, Part I.
This probably won't mean anything to anyone else but I saw the thread title and instantly thought Leslie Phillips. Welcome aboard and left hand down a bit.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
Hey, there. I was at AF.com too but finally gave it up because the forum software just sucks.
As far as The Thinking Catholic goes, nothing could be more of an oxymoron. They aren't allowed to think. They are told what they think. Welcome. RE: well, hello
