The predecessor, Hungry Horace, was probably one of my first.
I remember Penetrator (careful) by Melbourne House was quite early on and a magnificent Scramble clone but unimaginably difficult.
I also remember quite clearly typing in a 3 or 4 page magazine Galaxian game in Sinclair BASIC which took probably a whole day and then being completely underwhelmed with the result and playing for 3 minutes. Fuckers!

Do torrented games count? I pirated Star Trek Armada 2 about 6 years ago, during my hardcore Trekkie days. I lost a lot of hours to that game.
My favourite matches would be to have 1 Borg faction, with ship and resource production speeds set to maximum, and then me and 6 other normal-speed federation factions to balance it out, all on my team. Even though they were massively outnumbered, the Borg could churn out 10 ships a second, it was so fun

I was poor growing up.
The only place I had access to a computer was in school.
When I became an adult and got my first computer, my first game was the one I have not even been playing that long.
Forsaken World.

Not exactly PC games, but loosely interpreted....
Back in... 1979? I got access to the school district's central system via a paper terminal over a 110 baud acoustically coupled modem. High tech shit, that was. But I discovered Hunt the Wumpus
and Star Trek
and wasted a lot of time and paper on both.
Not long after that the school purchased some Apple II computers and I discovered Alkalabeth,
which could be seen as the predecessor to the Ultima series.
It would be a few years after that before I would have access to a DOS PC - first game there was Flight Simulator.
As you can imagine, running that on a 4.77 MHz 8088 processor is a far cry from modern flight sims.
Y'all can get off my lawn any time now.

I do not understand this post. What is this talk of paper and acoustic modems? Sounds terrifying.

Ooh, another one of the first games I played for the Commodore 64 was Zaxxon. It was cutting edge for the time.
Note: the annoying sound in the beginning is actually in the game.

PC is normally opposition to Apple but since they are also Personal Computers.... I guess it counts.
But consoles don't count. Or arcades.

What makes me laugh is IBM invented the PC. When they grew in popularity, new standards were developed openly which made the IBM's incompatible with other generic PC hardware. They stuck to their guns for years.
Eventually, they were forced to comply with the new PC standards which they invented to ensure that their IBM's were IBM compatible!
