That's what I've been saying---he's not lying---at least from my experience with the same, he's not. He probably was offered what he thought was a scholarship. Politico is making the inaccurate leap that one needs to apply to a service academy to be promised an appointment. I was promised an appointment without ever having considered the Naval Academy. After that one meeting with a Blue & Gold officer, I would have said (and did say) that I was offered a full ride scholarship to the Naval Academy.

The circumstances might well fall out as you've described, and no harm nor foul laid -- but claiming that the offer came from the highest-ranking general in a meeting that can not have happened is certainly corrosive to his credibility.

Considering the other shit he's spouting, I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that "lying" is the best explanation if he claimed that space aliens promised him an appointment to the Federation Academy on Uranus - delivered via anal probe - not when "batshit crazy" is still on the table.
...and it is.

I think that's what they call an Uncle Tom. It's always sad hearing anyone saying slavery was a good thing, especially a black guy. Someone should give them a taste of the goodness that comes from slavery. They'll be singing a different tune in a week.

Yeah, I'm not throwing my money on moral failure ... it's very possible that he's constructed a narrative inside his own head.
Which is, of course, equally disqualifying.

I suppose now we'll have to hear that the fucking Wall Street Journal is part of the "liberal" media?
http://www.rawstory.com/2015/11/another-...race-riot/
Quote:Another Ben Carson tale implodes: No evidence supports claim he shielded white classmates from 1968 race riot
Quote:Now the Wall Street Journal has gone back to fact check a claim Carson made last month, in which he says he shielded white students from rioting after the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968. The Journal could find no evidence the event occurred.
“It may have happened, but I didn’t see it myself or hear about it,” Gregory Vartanian, a white high school classmate of Carson’s who was on ROTC with him and is now a retired U.S. Marshal, told the Journal.
