I nature the independent thinking as much as possible and I encourage them to try to make their own choices, but in the end I have to have the final say. Kids can be intelligent but they tend to lack common sense and they suck at considering the future. So yea, most of the time they don't get to have the final say.
Yeah good point, the parent is responsible in caring for the child until they are 18 if they don't like that, tough shit. Hehe.
I guess I should have made it more clear that whenever you decide to overule them, I'm sure you'd also take into consideration beforehand any possible effects going against their wishes might have on them long-term when you make that decision to overrule them

They cry and stomp their feet for a few minutes before being distracted by a shiny piece of metal. Those are the effects. Again, fuck em.

Ha, generally, especially on smaller issues.
Anyway, Losty is such a good mother and has such a good relationship with her children that I doubt they'd resent her when they're older if she chooses to overule any of them on decisions such as these. I was kind of generalizing. Trying to give any advice that I am able to

On a lighter note, Leli got her first citation last week and then very quickly had it stricken from her record lol. I try not to be that "my kid can do no wrong" kind of parent, because I think those people are annoying and my kids certainly have their moments of being assholes. But this situation I had to go in and so no sorry this isn't ok. She was written up for refusing to do the fact families. Generally I would tell her that she's never allowed to refuse to do school work.
Let me show you about fact families.
3, 6, and 9.
Doing fact families:
3+6=9
6+3=9
9-3=6
9-6=3
Her teacher explained this to the class as such:
The dad is a 9 because he's the biggest
The mom is a 6 because she's smaller than the dad but bigger than the baby
The baby is a 3 because she's the littlest
In the morning the baby wakes the mom and the dad goes to work
3+6=9
Throughout the day the mom cares for the baby while the dad works
6+3=9
The dad comes home and plays with baby while mom cooks dinner
9-3=6
Mom and dad have spend time together after baby goes to bed
9-6=3
After speaking with the teacher I learned that Leli didn't actually refuse to do the work. She was apparently "disrupting the class" by insisting that this explanation makes no sense because all families are different. Ha. So I had talk with Leli about it before the parent teacher conference and I just told her that sometimes grown-ups don't like to be told when they're wrong, but that I don't think she did anything wrong whether or not they removed the citation I was still proud of her. Luckily, they did remove it.
Now if I could get my son to stop getting up and trying to "go play outside" without permission in the middle of class

No children here. Hopefully, anyway.
I can't comment except to do what you feel is right.
