The Goblin King is dead.
Long Live the Goblin King!
R.I.P., David Bowie.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Yeah, like a lot of us here on AF, I'm in mourning. One of my absolute favorites. More of his songs really inspired me deeply than just about anyone else's.
Five Years. Rock 'n' Roll Suicide. Life on Mars.
Well, David, we'll miss you.

Don't worry, my friend. If this be the end, then so shall it be.

I feel really bad for my mother, she's probably in tears, or she will be when she finds out.

I really like the song "Fame", above all others. I guess it's not "classic" Bowie, but I like it, and that's what matters.
He was also just pleasant and interesting to hear speak.

The new video is weird, just released the other day. One of my favorite movies is The Man Who Fell To Earth. I heard about it this morning while making a fire and thought to myself only 14 more years to go if I die at his age. We really aren't here for that much time, too bad many of us are lied to and miss lead during the most important phase. Wait till these young'uns find out it goes by exponentially faster the older one gets. I find it wild how the believers like to waist time playing cribbage or some other mindless pass time just waiting for the better life. Why strive to achieve anything important, we've been promised another new life right after this one. Someone showed me a Black Sabbath cartoon yesterday from 1974 that I never knew about, and I was thinking look Ozzy is a skinny runt. I recall when Ozzy was a new thing on the radio back when Lyndon B Johnson was president. I see for the first time that atheist also could care less about life, now that is a real waist. Being alive is an exceptionally rare opportunity and seems to be treated with casual disregard.

Yeah, the new video is pretty bizarre, but it makes sense that he'd put out some really weird shit when he knew he was dying.
I really dig this song.

I'm not in mourning, since I didn't know him. I'm sad that another great artist is silenced forever. But I guess, people of my generation have to live with the fact that the idols of their youth have long entered the senior citizen stage. It's only a matter of a rather short time until they die. And frankly, I'm surprised that some of them are still alive. Looking at you, Keith Richards.

These days (and for many years now), gender-bending among pop stars is so routine it's hardly worth mentioning. When Bowie did it, it was new, provocative, and shocking -- even for many in the hip crowd, whose only real experience with such stuff involved jackasses making cracks about the length of their hair. Bowie was years ahead of his time, and the artists who owe much of their schtick to him would form a line stretching around the block and then some. He was a groundbreaker culturally and -- more importantly -- musically. His run of albums in the '70s is an accomplishment that damn few pop/rock acts can claim to have approached, much less equaled.
I had no idea he was ill, so the news came as a bad surprise when I heard it this morning. I'm glad he was able to drop that last album just before he died. I'll be buying it soon.

I didn't know either. And kudos for keeping his private life private. It's as it's supposed to be.
