Tell us more about that good old time religion Drich.IDK I think Joseph had a pretty good run as Pharaoh's slave. No one had a higher position in all of Egypt. He literally ruled, and only answered to Pharaoh himself. Maybe to you having complete access and control of the most powerful nation in the world at the time is just 'the man trying to keep you down.' But to me that would be a great place of honor, even if I had the title slave. Why? because it is only a word that we ourselves give meaning to. The circumstance Joseph lived was far above and beyond anyone else in his day except one person, and enjoyed freedoms and wealth most in his day could not even fathom let alone access in all of their 'freedom.' Yet by definition He was a slave to pharaoh. That my narrow minded friend is an example of slavery not being a 'bad' thing, yet on the other side of the coin in just a few hundred years, when all had been forgotten about Joseph, the tide turned and the slaves of Egypt/The Jews were treated horribly as slaves. That is why I said slavery is a tool that does not have to be all evil all the time. It simply brings out who we are when we are left unchecked with the illusion of total control over another human being. That is why it is so important that people like you acknowledge your role in modern day slavery so we do not let companies who own/use slave labor to go unchecked! Do you own Nikes, a cell phone, a computer (built in the last 10 years) have anything that uses lithium batteries, ever bought a auto part from a dealer or even a discount part store? Ever eat food you did not grow or raise yourself? Yes??? Then know your money went directly to support modern day slavery. So then, if all slavery is wrong then why do you personally support it with your money?
How about I take you as my slave, Drich? I'll treat you just like the ones in your magic story.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Your look at the institution from a first world perspective. Or rather you assume you are in a position of someone who could own a slave rather than be a slave if those were the only two types of people in the world. as someone you who only knows the illusion of freedom you can not think of any reason why anyone would elect slavery for themselves. However, imagine you are part of a 3rd world nation, with no prospects of education or even a job outside of being a mud and bamboo hut, mosquito farmer.. Now Imagine millions more just like you. All out of work all with no sustainable way to provide for yourself or family. because the one thing your family has always done (fish farm whatever) can't feed your town's growing population anymore. Now Imagine Ford, or Apple or Boeing decides to put up a sub assembly plant (under a different name or sub contractor of course which is high regulated by the world goverments) in your part of the world. Now in exchange for a 6th month, regulated 70 hour work week or meeting production requirements, you get housing (maybe a shoe box studio, but it has electric, plumbing, It's clean, and temp control) food stipen, access to company medical and .35 cents an hour in a place where a dollar a day is considered top pay. Which does not sound like a lot, but when all your basic needs are met this is a fortune.. This would be an idea situation, however what tends to happen is a unreasonably long work contract, beatings when quotas are not met, no work shift time limits in some cases, below average pay, when housing is provided it is in shanty towns, and the workers are often times charged for food and housing at a rate equal to or just under what they make so they will never get out from under the company store. With your acknoweledgement and those like you could come work conditions like or greater than what I laid out above. Any kind, really. Drich is a divine command man, lol. Understand that when you have this sort of discussion with him you won't even be talking about the same things when you use the words "morality", "right", or "wrong". To mockingly say it over and over displays a feeling of oppression under an authoritarian rule.. Ironically much like your peer understanding of slavery. |
