Jesus was born, um, somewhere around this time

Quote:Herod Antipas did authority over the Galilee and Perea even despite being limited as a client king, that would assume John the Baptist came from either one of those areas.

J the B was associated with Bethany...which is in Judaea.

Frankly, the whole thing sounds like bullshit.

It is common for contemorary teachers to critisize the Roman emperors and later Christian kings in Europe for claiming to be "Devinely Appointed" or claiming semi-sacred status as is attributed to the Pope. (The Pope is officially the "Viceroy of Christ"). Yet this is exactly what the wandering preacher named "Jesus of Nazareth", (among others), was accused of, tried for and executed for according to the laws of the time!

It seems every crowd has its idols which are atributed with "Devine Status". And each group accuses the other of worshipping the wrong God! What hypocracy!

Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great

Quote:Matthew
2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Herod the Great died in 4 BCE, so Jesus would have to have been born before then.

Jesus was conceived in 3BC and Herod the Great died in 1BC according to all the manuscripts written before 1500AD. After this date there seems to be an error in copying to have given the 4BC date. The closer to the event the more reliable the data.

And what "manuscripts" would those be? The Xtian Apologists' Horseshit Encyclopedia?

When reality hurts, you make up your own.

BTW, it still doesn't help you. P. Sulpicius Quirinius did not become governor of Syria until 6 AD.

You think I'm making this up "professor history" then prove me wrong or are you afraid because you might actually discover a truth outside of your atheist notional. There are some thoughts about Quirinius but as far as I know at this time nothing is yet resolved.

Can you reference any of them for us? If you can't do that then there is nothing at all we can use to distinguish the possibility of you making it up from the truth.

Jesus was born in June of 2BC, in that month of that year Jupiter "the king planet" and Venus "the mother planet" came into alignment and formed the brightest star ie. light in the heavens that has ever been seen. When the Magi came to Herod they said they had seen His sign in the heavens and this is what started them on their journey. The star that anounced the birth of Jesus was not a comet, meteor, bright shining angel or a special star created for the event. The God who created the heavens and knew the exact movements of His creation had His timing down perfect, just as I stated in the omniscience and perfection post. This month and year given here was also mathematically arrived at and you can go to home.comcast.net/~murrellg/Herod.htm and find how this was done.
