This is all I could find on your 'authority'...Is there somewhere else I should look??
Interesting ...written in 1993.
I did my search on Google would not think that would make a difference but then who knows. I went back and put in the address I posted and it gave me several sites I choose the one with the address I gave and it took me to the site with the info. You might try again and if you do not find it let me know and I will try to get you that info.
PS when you go to the site near the bottom of the page it gives a link to the date of Jesus birth.

If Jesus was born in 2 BCE, he'd still be too old by the time John the Baptist was executed. Jesus was "about 30" according to Luke when he began his ministry and this didn't happen until JTB's execution. Apologists, aware of this, like to claim that "about 30" could mean 37.
Is abuse of the Ad Hoc Hypothesis a logical fallacy?

Quote:Jesus was born in June of 2BC, in that month of that year Jupiter "the king planet" and Venus "the mother planet" came into alignment and formed the brightest star ie. light in the heavens that has ever been seen.
G-C you are such an infant sometimes. You'll believe anything that anyone tells you as long as it tries to sustain your fairy tale belief system.
Matthew 2 1-12 contains BOTH of these lines:
"We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”
(For "wise" men this is odd because if they...living in Babylon/Persia saw a star "in the east" and followed it they would have ended up in China....not Judaea.)
But even worse is this line....which xtian morons avoid like the plague because it is clear that the idiots who wrote this crap did not know what a "star" was.
" After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. "
Just silly shit written by primitive assholes.

Guess you need to study some more about the movement of planets and stars, they are always stopped, it is the earth that moves and with a thing called retrograde motion, planets do appear to stop and even go backwards.
You are correct about the magi coming from Babylon and they did see His star in the east, Min all stars rise in the east and set in the west and following the star it would have lead them west (seems these guys are wiser than you dude) because Jerusalem is west of Babylon. The star which was actually Jupiter "the king planet" was setting in the west over Jerusalem ever night of there journey as observed from the direction of Babylon and did stop over Bethleham on Dec. 25 of 2BC when one observed it from Jerusalem, it's that retrograde motion thing I mentioned earlier. Yes the day we celebrate in the giving of gifts and the birth of Christ. Now when you stop laughing call NASA and ask them to run the Starry Night program they use, giving the dates of June the 17th of 2BC til Dec. 25 of 2BC as viewed from Babylon and let them tell you what Jupiter does during those nights and then just swallow it, bet it will taste bitter to you.
PS if some unknown person had written Matthew in the 2nd century AD they would not have known this very precise info because star movement charts were not keep in those days and as I said before God the creator knows the movement of His creation and thus chose the perfect time for these events to take place.

so how come no other cultures have recorded this astrological phenomenon at this period in time?

True....and the astronomers of the time knew of this. It still does not explain why you should believe this "star" is now a Planet. Or is it just MORE reinvention by xtian apologists in response to those pestky scientists undoing all their hard won propeganda?

As I said GC ...pesky bloody scientists. On the same programme you will find that the pyramids of the Giza plateau were built in 10,500BCE (like WTF?) That would put ALL of the bible stories out by 6,000 years?? Hmmm Just my casual observation.

Yes written in 1998....apparently their is another updated version for 2010??
Actually this reminds me of those books by Maurice Cottrell regarding the pyramids of the Giza plateau and the Mayan prophicies...run -away best sellers for the 'New Age market' quite an interesting read.

A :
Interesting approach, using astrology to prove a myth.
Oh, and how come this date is not widely accepted by Christian scholars? Are they all really stupid or just not real Christians? As far as I'm aware, there is no consensus. Dates vary from 2 bce to 7bce,with 5bce being commonly accepted.
It's always bemused me that Christians don't actually know the date (or year) of Jesus' birth or death. Didn't anyone ever think of just asking his mother?
PS: I also think it's not unreasonable to expect Miriam to remember the date of the annunciation. After all it's not every day a young girl of 12 or 13 receives a personal visit from an angel of the Lord. You'd think it might stick in her mind.

From Wiki on Jesus' possible year of birth.
Quote:There is no contemporary historical evidence demonstrating the date of Jesus’ birth. The common Gregorian calendar method for numbering years, in which the current year is 2011, is based on an early medieval attempt to count the years from a point of reference — namely, Jesus’ birth — which Dionysius Exiguus placed, either mistakenly or intentionally, sometime between 2 BC/BCE and 1 AD/CE.[42] The Gospel of Matthew states Jesus’ birth occurred during the reign of Herod the Great, who died in 4 BC/BCE,[43] but also with the intimation that Jesus may have been as much as two years old when Herod ordered the Massacre of the Innocents, and therefore that he may have been even older at the time of Herod's death. The Gospel of Luke similarly points to Jesus’ birth as having occurred during the reign of Herod the Great (i.e., sometime between 37 and 4 BC/BCE), but the author of Luke also describes the birth as taking place during the first census of the Roman provinces of Syria and Iudaea, which is generally believed to have occurred in 6 AD/CE.[44] Most scholars generally assume a date of birth between 6 and 4 BC/BCE.[45] Other scholars assume that Jesus was born sometime between 7–2 BC/BCE and died sometime between 26–36 AD/CE.[46][47][48][49][50] Additional evidence uncovered in 1923 by archeologists digging in the ruins of a Roman Temple near Ankara, Turkey points to 8 BC based on descriptions of three empire-wide censuses, one of which occurred in 8 BC.[51][vague]
