Don't invite folks to play What If, and play Dumb, instead.
It's rude.
Are we playing, or what?
What makes you think I'm playing anything.
I presented a topic I can not win. I can't win it because it is not scriptural, although I could go much much deeper into the topic if anyone wanted to challenge me. (Meaning I have put alot of thought into this subject and can somewhat use the bible to kinda make this claim.) Their isn't anything dumb about any of this. It is just a 'what if' senerio.
Wow...How fucking magnanimous of you.
So, get to it. How would you define your role in this magical what if scenario?
Going by your present behavior, I would definitely say sub-par.
Thoughts?

You know what I kind of wonder?
What if Gandalf actually intended to take the Fellowship of the Ring to the Eagles in the first book so they could just fly the ring over that stupid volcano? I know a lot of people criticize him for not doing that in the first place, and other people criticize those people by saying the book/movie wouldn't have happened if he had done that, but what if that's what he was actually trying to do?
If you remember, Gandalf did not want to go through the Mines of Moria. Gimli was all hot to do it, but Gandalf was trying to take them further north without going under the mountain. Most people think this was just a safer path, but if you look at the map of Middle Earth and pay attention to what happened in the Hobbit, it turns out this path would have taken them right past Eagle territory up at the north end of the mountain range. By cutting through the mines, they had to go much further south than he wanted, meaning that they'd have to cut back up toward the Eagles on the other side, and they might get caught up fighting monsters in the mines. He didn't really have an option, though, seeing as how Saruman was actively trolling them with storm magic.
Now, some people say that if that was Gandalf's plan, why didn't he tell anyone? Simple: he wanted to keep it a secret. As I said, Saruman was using magic against Gandalf a lot, meaning he had to keep a near constant bead on where Gandalf was and what he was doing. We see him using various divination spells and devices throughout the story, and it's also mentioned that both Sauron and Saruman have spies all over Middle Earth. Furthermore, the Fellowship itself had some Men in it, and Gandalf didn't trust men and might have sensed some of Boramir's treachery early on, so he may not have wanted the whole group to have the whole plan.
The most interesting piece of evidence, though, is what Gandalf says to the party when it becomes clear that he can't continue with them: "Fly, you fools!" Some say this is merely an instruction to flee, but what if Gandalf was trying to give them a hint about the Eagles, and they just didn't get it? He would have made the hint cryptic, in case Saruman was still watching or Boramir was going to fuck up the plan, but he definitely would have tried to tell them something that would lead them in that direction once he realized he couldn't climb over the cliff.
Now, it's entirely possible that he just meant "Flee from this place" and that Tolkien's rosy and verbose style is seen here, but Wizards in Tolkien stories (Gandalf especially) are known for being very particular about EVERYTHING they do and say, so I think if he'd meant "flee," that's what he would have said.
I admit I didn't come up with this theory on my own (I probably read it on Cracked or something), but I honestly think it makes a lot of sense. Are there any other major holes in it? What do you guys think?
Also, what if they had used a rock crusher to crush the One Ring instead of burning it? Gandalf said that it could only be melted in Mt. Doom, but what if they could have crushed it instead? I don't recall anyone trying. Do you think they would need to use a vertical or horizontal rock crusher to do that, if it's even possible?
Thoughts?
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)

ever play D&D? My role here would be that of the Dungeon Master. In working out this 'what if' I navigate what can and can't be done according to whatever direction strikes my fancy. Up until the point someone want to argue viability, then it all falls apart.

Thoughts? I don't think the power of the ring was limited to it's shape or form. Even if one could crush the ring the essence or material that holds it's power is still all intact. I think that the ring had to be melted in the volcano it was forged was to destroy the very essence of the ring. to rip apart the magic bound in the Ring.
As far as tolken's wizards being specific, I think that's a bad observation. They are often times cryptic if not boarder line insane. bird poop the brown, the wizard of what's it Forrest, was often times incohearant and spoke gibberish most of the time. which makes me wonder how much unchecked filler are you willing to cut and paste into a conversation to try and make a point.

For fucks sake. If Drippy is DM, I'm totally not playing. My poor tiefling wouldn't stand a chance.

It's all on how you roll the dice.

Bold above, mine. Do you even read what you write drippy? You just contradicted yourself. You can't navigate what can and can't be done according to whatever direction STRIKES YOUR FANCY if you are leaving it up to the characters' rolling of the dice.

I'm long past caring what the Dripmeister writes, but now and again his subtle self-observations do make me chortle somewhat.

Fact.
Have you hear any of the theories about the land of Ooo? What it really is? (kinda have to have watched the 5th season for it to make any sense.)
Haven't seen past second season. UK really gets fucked on alot of decent series. Don't get me started on Rick and Morty.

Are you denying that the sun and the earth move in a circular fashion in relation to each other?!?!?!?!?!
Then you better have a word with your friends at NASA!
