True. Most most non-believers have fundamentalists in mind. At the same time, most Roman Catholic theologians would (I think) agree with me and they are hardly a fringe denomination. You could say that RC is the premier Christian group.

I once heard a Catholic Priest start an epiphany (Visit of the Magi) homily by saying "You know there were no wise men, right? No visit from gift-bearing Kings or prophets or whatever they were supposed to have been."  He then launched into a great explanation of how the writer of Matthew wanted to use this image to show divinity.  I wanted to hug him.  My fundamentalist parents would have been outraged at that statement.  Yes, the Catholics are not nearly as literal-minded.

But the bible mentions people and places that existed at the time of writing. How could that be if it wasn't accurate?
