Calm down skipper..just turn it back a notch.

Besides, I speak Drunkese.. care to share a few gallons of the Dog with me? I quite enjoy Newcastle, perhaps one of the best Ales on the market as far as I am concerned.
So..hows the weather in Britain?

Lets leave religion out for now ... isn't this topic convoluted enough?
You believe in free speech and yet you call people "fucking idiots" for defending rights that they don't want to lose. Hmmm. Like many people in my country, it sounds like you believe in your free speech, but not necessarily everybody elses.
No, I believe in free speech, which I chose to use to voice my opinion on your countries gun laws. I never called anyone stupid or insulted them for their (often opposing) opinion, on gun culture, attitudes or laws. And I certainly never disagreed with your rights to own guns. I actually agreed. YOU were the one who told me my opinion didn't count just because it opposed yours.

Even while drunk, stoned, sleep deprived and over worked I can tell which one of us seems more against freedom of speech.
Well I'll end with this ...
First of all, I wasn't referencing anyone's posts when you erupted on me - especially not yours. I am also aware that you DID INDEED partially defend our gun laws. I do support freedom of speech and if you re-read my posts this will be painfully clear to anyone. I stand by the fact that my rights in my country do not concern foreigners and tomorrow when you are no longer drunk and stoned you can re-read your own posts and find that you DID INDEED insult people and did protect your own freedom of speech while protesting others. Have a good night Skipper.

Maybe we'll be on the same team on another thread.vvGoodnight

haha, the whole not using our language or watching that film (which I have never seen) was clearly used in jest at the comments from the other guy about not watching American films just because I didn't agree with the gun culture in the states.

Brown ale? Not a fan of the drink but they did sponsor the football (soccer) team I fell in love with as a child, Newcastle united. I actually have a bottle with a Sell by date of April '97 that was bought for me as youth because of the team I supported. That's vintage shit!!!

I think it's funny how the british think their country is so great and superior it make's them believe their better than everyone else in the world. If the queen of england was to tell somebody to roll over they would glady do it. If the president of the united states came and told somebody to roll over, we would say you first.

Quote:Nobody has said that at all. And the two British people that have argued against an armed population (me and Ace) have both agreed that it makes sense in your country to arm the population, when you consider the culture and history of your country and its relations with weapons. Don't try and turn this into a British bashing because we certainly haven't turned it into a piss take of America, we have been the ones who have seen both sides of the argument. Fucking idiot.

Truely I insulted you first so I don't mind the banter. But I won't stoop to name calling.

I was merely saying the british in general as an example believe they are a more sophistacated, aristocratic kind of people than others. Insulting I know, also poor choice of words.

You believe your system of government is the best, we believe our system of government is the worst besides every other system of government. Im not entirely sure who's from where and frankly I also don't care.

In my mind "I think it's funny how the british think their country is so great and superior it make's them believe their better than everyone else in the world" dosen't sound like you were trying to call us a "more sophistacated, aristocratic kind of people".

I completely agree, poor word choices as stated above, I did not attempt to explain myself whatsoever when I made the statement. Also I thought that I could shed some light on to why I said it. Thinking

I didn't mean to call you a more sohpistacated, aristocratic kind of people. I was trying to say that the british believe they are for some unknown reason to me. I obviously left some typo's, sorry for the confusion. (does it make sense now, I really should stop posting at 4-5am) I Don't sleep much though, I suffer from insomnia.

I love it when this little gem comes up in gun control debates(as it invariably does)

And yes, I can see where a disorganised bunch of amateur John Wayne wannabes armed with pistols and hunting rifles would be able to defeat a professional army equipped with artillery, tanks, aircraft, helicopters and all of the other paraphernalia that is designed to turn you into strawberry jam........

common Zen, first of all, the point you're "picking on" was not remotely at the heart of my point.
Secondly, I think any army would at least consider the fact that the army they are fighting has an additional 100 million armed civilians on their home front. And as for the John Wayne remark - I would remind you that it was nothing but farmers and pig ranchers that fought the war for our independance and won ... not a well-trained army.
And again none of that even matters because that was just a small random point about why Americans want to keep their right to bear arms. Why not mention the other points? And do you want the American people to lose yet another right? What's so wrong with the right to own a gun? I own several - I have no wish to shoot anyone - ever. Why shouldn't I be allowed to own a gun?

Here is the whole post I made ... in case someone reading this doesn't know what we're referring to.

Quote:Yes, the US is far from perfect, and yes we still have a lot of crazies walking around with dark thoughts and violent ideas. That does not change the fact that most of us are ordinary people who want to protect our rights. Rights that most of the world don't have. And one of those rights is the Right to Bear Arms. If your country does not allow you this right and you're fine with that - than thats great for you, but that doesn't work for us. We like hunting, we like sport shooting, we like knowing that we can personally protect our land from an invading army just by banding together with our neighbors, and we like knowing that we can protect our families in their beds with deadly force. WE LIKE being American and MOST of us will not apologize for that. You don't want guns. Fine. We do and just for the record - the people you see killing other people on TV by means of a firearm - well, most of those dangerous people are using firearms illegally anyway and gun laws would never have saved us from them ..... just like anti-theft laws in Europe won't save you from thieves. People are assholes and they will take ANYTHING, including a gun, and turn it into something they can control others with.

Quote:Zen, although I clearly disagree with you, I still respect your right to lobby against me. That's America. Admittedly, I do hope you don't succeed at helping to take yet another right of mine away.

Where exactly did I say you shouldn't have your guns?

It's your country, you can do what you damn well please.

My point was only that a professional invading army would not by deterred by a bunch (and I'll say it again) of John Wayne wannabes waving their hunting rifles around like it's the wild west.

As to the War of Independence? that was then, this is now. And they were semi professional militias( similar to the National Guard) not random farmers and the like.
Also they were armed similarly to their opponents.

Any invading army has ALREADY defeated the U.S military(the most heavily funded military in the world, bar none).

After the napalm, cluster bombs, long range artillery attacks, the missiles, the massed rocket attacks and chemical drops their biggest problem would hosing your mangled remains out of their tank tracks.

To illustrate a point, this is your home army....

your opposition has already beaten this...

Reality check please.....

@ RJ, as was pointed out to my company when I was in the Australian Army Reserves. The sole intent of a gun is to kill, nothing else(this point was made by our sergeant, a professional soldier).

So when lots of devices whose designed purpose is to kill are held by lots of people whose I.Q can be measured on the fingers of one hand, expect consequences.

No worries Zen...more idiots where they came from.

Seriously, USA and it's poilcies are up to the citizens of that country alone. At the moment it would seem that places like Arizona want to portray "Americans" as mindless gun toating idiots who will eventually kill themselves off...just a matter of time.

Places like Alaska?? Canadian Provences? Shit yeah! These are very wild places where survival is between man and rather large animals that think man is just 'lunch' is understandable. For places like Arizona?? WTF are you going to shoot...a snake?? Why would you all want to have guns???

So not understanding... Dunno

You severly under estimating the types of weapons and preparedness of americans. We are a very serious people, we are not the dumb rednecks most believe we are. We must and will have only the latest and greatest and we have access to all military grade weapons excepted for armored vehicles and jet fighters ect. grenades, rockets, minuguns, 50 cals, assault rifles, kevlar vest we can get what ever we wish to pay for. the army is about 2million strong, the populace 330million. If ever there was any kind of crackdown we would simply ban together walk up to them, and say hello were a huge mob.

Also we are not the country that doesn't learn from it's enemies, if need be we will use every tactic we can think of, even those used against us in places like vietnam, or modern day iraq. We are taught about IED's in school now, we know how they use them, why they use them and simply we will use them if need be. We are a sponge that soaks up all the knowledge of war possible.

Arizona is still very much the wild west it was so long ago, and ins't going to change. I would rather take my chances with a gun, seeming how everyone else has one and is ready to fire if needed.

Fucking pussies...come to Oz and we can show you snakes....
