At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I'd just like to point out how fucking sad and pathetic it is that such things as Reason Rallies are even thought to be necessary correctives to the BS that is so commonplace.

Star Trek's "Q", John De Lancie, will be at the reason rally. He was thrown out of Sunday School as a kid!!!
Jean-Luc Picard on prayer: "Let us do no such dam thing!"
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

TV show host and actor, John Davidson, wrote a beautiful essay on atheism (he will also be in reason rally) here's a part of it:
If people believe that the Bible is a book of facts and not myths, then they are a danger to me and my loved ones, because the Bible, if taken literally, says people should kill anyone who does not agree with their faith (Deuteronomy 13), that women must submit to men, that slavery should be accepted, that homosexuality is wrong and that the end of the world is imminent. And, if people advocate for prayer instead of modern medicine, they are a drain on our health care emergency centers, not to mention a danger to themselves and their own children.
On a lighter note, when a football player points a finger to the sky after a touchdown, but fails to point another finger to the sky after a fumble, it’s laughable. Why is the believer’s credo to give divine thanks when things go right but not to lay blame when the opposite occurs? It makes no sense, and I guess that’s the point.

Man...now that I know Christians will be out trolling, I almost want to go ahead and go. These plebes did NOT want to start a troll-off with the Wizard of Staunton, but they just might have...
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)

Who knows maybe they learn something. I mean if Ray Comfort is coming how come his gay lover Kirk Cameron isn't?
That was really creepy to watch... this really excited, grinning pastor giving this pep talk, throwing in snide little remarks for good measure:
"They're hoping to get the huge numbers they predicted they were going to have last time... (leans forward) though they didn't (leans back out)... but they're hoping..."
"we as believers in Jesus Christ wanna go there not to show our political clout... (leans forward) though wouldn't it be nice if there were more Christians there than atheists - what would that do to their political clout? (leans back out) but we're going to show love..."
And to this, well what can you say?
"...course the problem with that is well, Christians can do science too, Christians have reason too"
And this is what they think they're attacking. I don't know what Reason Rally is, not being American, but I doubt it's this:
"these people are out there, as they were four years ago, just bashing Christianity, showing their hatred for Christians, and misrepresenting what Christianity is"
