(intentionally left out Star Wars and Star Trek, I love them but find it too hard to choose between and not include several)
(2001 is one of those things where I feel like I should pick it and while I enjoyed it, I still don't know exactly how I feel about it)

Blade Runner (1982
Ghost in the Shell (1995)
The Matrix (1999)
Alien (1979)
Aliens (1986)
The Thing (1982)
Donnie Darko (2001)
Wall-e (2008)
Terminator 2 (1991)
Event Horizon (1997

Was Donnie Darko really sci-fi though?

I struggled with this actually, but I consider it to be. Maybe not in the traditional sense. It's got time travel.
If I had to replace it with something more traditional it would probably be replaced with Minority Report, Interstellar, or Prometheus.

Why would you nominate this abomination? Repent now!

I have a nostalgic connetion to it because we're the same age, and it has a good German (*) villain Smile

Austrian, but aren't the best German villains Austrians?

OMG, that film is exquisitely horrible.

I saw it at the cinema. One of my earliest trips.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.

Well, if you liked it, you must have your reasons. Silly reasons, undoubtedly, but who am I to judge such terrible taste!

Prometheus lost my interest when Charlize Theron got squashed like a bug.

But in fairness it still remains far from the worst atrocity ever perpetrated upon the franchise of acid blooded chest busters
