UK to leave EU

ETA: Except for the civil rights part. Civil rights referendums can go horribly wrong when there is an underrepresented or disenfranchised minority's rights at stake. If segregation laws were up for referendum, there are some portions of the South in America which would happily vote to segregate schools/businesses. Hell, there are places in America where black people would vote to segregate themselves.

It can go both ways. Weed is being legalized by referendums. Sometimes the population knows better than the government on civil rights issues.

Well, that's not very democratic of you.

There's a reason we elect representatives: because we want them to make educated decisions for us

Your current country has managed to elect flaming assholes like Louis Gohmert, Steve King, Michelle Bachmann, Trent Franks ( my congressman and a first-class fucktard) and so on.  The worst part of democracy is that people seem to elect people who tell them what they want to hear.

Let's hope it doesn't reach its ultimate conclusion.

You just come to Italy bro, cheap as fuck shitholes on the Ionian sea! With Greek ruins nearby, if you don't mind the swamp they're buried in

You know there's a line between democracy and populism, your toes are all over it right now :/

Sure it is. We don't live in a direct democracy. We live in a representative democracy. That means we elect people to make decisions for us. Just because we don't vote on everything individually doesn't mean we aren't democratic.

This was a complicated issue. Most people didn't properly understand it. Lies were spread, there was fear mongering. The vote should have never happened.

Nigel Farage just admitted on TV that the Leave campaign were wrong to say £350 million a week could be spent on the NHS if we left the EU. The lies are already emerging.

We don't get a say who becomes President in your country, or other decisions of yours that could affect everyone else. Why the hell should your citizens get a say in our affairs?

Mine already got flushed in 2008, so I can relate. I've got nothing left to lose on the financial side, but back in the day, at least the political situation wasn't as ugly as it is now. And that's what we will have to deal with in the upcoming years.
