I hope the EU can withstand this. It's probably going to make it stronger in the long run, more democratic and more willing to accept differences in its member states.

As with religion - education features into decisions like that. It's no surprise that London voted stay, since that's business as usual. You see a distinct line between urban and rural in all the recent European decisions between the right wing narrative and the voices of reason.

I think it's bullshit that the million and a bit voters that made the difference here get to break up Europe.

The people should get what they voted for. There shouldn't be a veto. If Scotland had voted for independence and it was denied them then I would have been rioting as well.

But there's always the chance that Britain will re-enter into the EU again when the baby boomers die off. Or they could even get closer links with America and Canada.

If they vetoed the votes to get out of Europe and made the referendum meaningless, then yes. Not just riots but a full fledged overthrow of the government would be ideal.

I'm only playing. I don't expect this to happen, nor would it be right. I just wish more care was put into the decision in the first place, and I think the shockwaves of the outcome relative to the marginal result is appalling.
